What an incredible post! I went to buy a new tea pot today as m old one smashed and i thought i would get a new tea cosy and the cheapest one i could find was £4.99 and i thought sod that i could crochet one. Do you have a pattern you could send me?
Thanks! All I did was watch the following 2 videos from youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJiS2rz1Le4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9CIpIh3III
(it's a part 1 and part 2). I just used 2 colours that would go with my tea pot and with the kitchen decor to keep it simple. It's basically 2 squares (or in my case it was rectangles) and then put them together around the spout and the handle. I did do her 'drawstring' idea as well with the chain stitch using both colours I had used as one big chain stitch and tied it in a bow. It came out great and took 1 day! Good luck!0 -
Hi all,
What a day.its so cold my finger tips frozen when i was re-potting the rhubarb. Its grown twice the size in a matter of two weeks:eek:.
Hope this pots big enough. i also found two onions, and a spud that were left from last year, i'm on a roll!
I know its daft but i had to tell someone, just paid off one of credit cards today:D:D:D:D. Just scrimped and saved enough to get shot of it! So pleased with ourselves. Roll on the next one!
Planning on repairing another top today, found it in the bottom of the basket, so will have to do that soon.
Gailey, that's what it like with us, no matter how hard we try, something bites us in the backside. But hey thats life, just got to roll with the punches.0 -

And I think a lot of us suffer from teh being-bitten-on-the-b*m syndrome! But at least we can be in it together!!!:D:D
Have some good news in this house today - DS1 has got a place in grammar school - yeay! Not so yeay is the price of the uniform compared to the local comp (Unusual colours, not a pick up at Asda job!) nor the fact that a laptop is compulsory....:eek:I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
Katholicos- sorry to hear of your loss.
FTM-Things are tough for OH and I as he has a hugh amount of debt from his marriage, ( which I must say at time I resent as it affects mine and my children's live and not his ex's or their child but I did know about the debt before we moved into together) But and feel happier as it made me re-evaluate what is important.
Not much OS going on her at the moment as I've been confined to the couch for the past few days. During this time I have been thinking about learning to sew and knit both skills that I was unable to master at an early age as my hobbies have always been about being outside. Although now my energy levels arn't up to this I think this may be a usefully way of using my time. I know I should be trying to catch up on uni work but this seems to take a lot out of me mentally.
So can anyone recommend any good tutorials please for knitting

Kezlou- well done in paying off one of your Debit Card :T
Greent- Congrats on your son getting in to Grammer school. Have you though of contact the education office to see if there is any help available in getting a laptop. Around here some of the children in low income families have been provided with laptops and internet access by school. Its always worth asking.
Gail: You post hit a nerve as and as I said earlier it has only been the last few weeks that I have been able to be more positive about our situation and take pleasure n the little things, such as OH becoming more frugal/OS in his outlook.

kathlicos, so sorry for your loss ((hugs))
((hugs)) to anyone else who needs one
we ended up going over budget by around £40 on our grocery budget, spent around £80 for the month on petrol(will get around £40 of this back in expenses though) spent around £30 on takeaways and i'm far too embarrassed to admit how much we spent on alcohol for the two of us - although as my SIL pointed out, some people could spend that much on a night outso kind of made me feel a bit better
March is set to be really tough for us, the car MOT is due and we have a feeling it will fail - abs fault light keeps coming on, brakes sound really clumpy(if that makes sense) at least one headlight is out and another on it's way - i have budgeted around £200 for the car so hopefully it will be less and not more
home insurance is due - had a quote for £268 for the year from current provider so need to look round for that to get cheaper
we have some money to pay towards the holiday - booked last year on the CC but now we've had our LB moment we are trying to pay for it out of our own money and not the CC!!!
also need to buy specialised travel insurance for said holiday but have no idea where to start on that one
we applied for council tax benefit and had a letter back today saying we aren't eligablealso applied for DLA for DD and again got a letter back on that saying that she isn't eligable
it sounds daft but if we were eligable for these benefits then it would have enabled me to stay at home full time but as it stands it looks like i am going to have to get myself a job as all DH's wage is spent on our basic living needs and we don't have much spare cash for luxuries/days out etc
i really feel in turmoil about working tbh, i want to be at home full time - feel like i need to be for DD(ok she is in full time school) as we are quite old fashioned and feel that a mum should be at home(especially when a child has a medical condition - and could be called away from work quite often) but at the same time for us to actually have some sort of better quality life(no debts, more money) i need to work
i did work for 6 months over the summer last year but was getting called home every week to collect DD from school/childminders, in the end i left before they got me to leave from having too much time off etc, granted DD is now on medication and has been fine for almost 5 months now but it's still scary and as a mum i feel like i NEED to be at home but i know we can't afford for me not to work0 -
Katholicos - ((((((((Hugs))))))))
Haven't posted for a while, but am super proud that tomorrow is my last loan payment :j:beer::j
All we have to do now is pay off my C/card, which unfortunatley has had some extra things on it, but theyhave been MSE, eg: we put the car insurance on there as the apr for paying it monthly was almost 30% were my credit card is only 15%, so we have saved some there & it was paid off almost straight away, and we are putting £50 a month in a savings account so by next Jan when it is due again we will have the money ready.
So out of almost £35K we only have £2,225 left to pay & that should be done by end April/beg May.
Almost there..........!0
