child tax credit

hi my tax credits got stopped today and got to make a new joint claim (longstory)

my question is do they back date the money to the start of the claim.

i have been told it could take 5 weeks so does that mean i will get the 5 weeks of money.

has anyone had it sorted quicker then 5 weeks

  • Yes, your claim will get backddated to the date that you opened your new claim. To note though, this is not done in all instances and some times you need to ask for it to be backdated. I had to ask for mine to be backdated - they didn't make anything of it though and I recieved it the next week.

My new claim when I had to make one took 3 weeks.

would we get that in 1 lump sum or is it going to spread out
  • It should be in a lump sum, when I made a new claim and the money was backdated it was just the 1 payment that went in.

  • so annoying all this they stopped my tax credits cause they said my boyfriend is living with me (which he wasnt but from today im moving him him) thats why im doing the joint claim.so because tax credits think this and wouldnt listen to anything i said he said my boyfriend moved in october - november. do i get into trouble.all he said is we had to do a joint claim and backdate it 93 days.
  • also when they say backdate it 93 days is that from yesterday when they stopped it or when i feel the form in or what?am i going to owe them money it works out i will be about £8 better off a week doing it joint.

so even tho i was getting paid ctc as single and now they are saying my boyfriend moved in end of october they said that they were ending my claim from the end of october.they said i can backdate 93 days which is roughly back to end of november so does that mean the 5 weeks from end of october to the end of november i am going to owe them money even though i was getting £10 less then if i was a couple
    i hope that makes sense
  • does anyone know

    thankyou
  • Yes it does mean that you will have a five week overpayment. Have you tried to appeal against the decision that your partner was living there when you say he wasn't? If he has proof (rent reciepts, council tax at another property for eg.) then you should appeal. Your claim will can only be backdated for a maximum of 93 days so you will get 93 days of backdated money from the day they recieved the claim.
