This is NOT true! It is discretionary by your local LEA, and is not dependant on DLA. Call the BEL, and they will tell you directly.

    PP

My mum was told by the DLA people that the blue badge as no linked to them and she couldnt have it without DLA. We live in nottingham and our county linked it, apparently some counties havent linked it and some counties have?! its all so very stupidly confusing

Just to let you know the blue badge sceme is actually being reviewed by a comittee in the house of commons at the moment ;)
It was supposed to submit its findings and recommendations in the autumn but as usual they are running late...so hopefully they will do it this spring.
I only know this because our case was submitted before them by my MP and I got a letter back from the secretary of state for transport :D

LOL no such luck!! I have two of my kids with disabilities, one with autism and various other problems, the other as I've said has scoliosis. Both are on low rate mob..my council although its discretionary will not issue us with a badge as they can walk.Youngest doesn't do noise,traffic,crowds..well anything very well when hes out,he runs off or sits down in the road.Middle son can't walk very far, gets breathless and is in pain (he's got a lot of leg/hip probs due to the curvature),and trips up all over the place. As you can imagine we don't venture far or out very often but when we do its a logistical nightmare!!
  • For genuine people who need this blue badge and aren't getting keep trying.

I do object however...particularly to someone who I have seen regularly using the blue badge eventhough her disabled son is not with her. When they pop out anywhere the car is always parked on the disability spots etc but I know her son is at school :(

It then makes it difficult for other disabled drivers to park arrgghhh

Sorry had to dash off get middle son from school, had yet another fall!
The commitee is looking in to the fact some families are not getting assistance as they don't qualify under present guidelines i.e high rate mob.Although the councils have discretionary powers they do not often use them..(tell me about it!!)
They are looking at a number of issues one being autistic children, where although they can walk are sometimes dangerously unpredictable etc while out and about.Another is a family like mine with two kids on lowrate with different disabilities, thats why my case was presented :D Hopefully this showed them the case of the blue badge is not always as clear cut as they think..having said that my council are really trying to help and award us one but as my gp is useless (he tells them basically my kids can walk so there's no problem  ) their hands are tied..so thats our story so far.We are awaiting the outcome of the commitee now as I really have too many other things to do concerning my kids and cannot afford the time this warrants chasing it up as we only venture out about twice a year with all of them due to the parking issues..
  • Good old DLA!!!
Im in recipt of DLA now...... managed to be awarded on 1st application which seems rare! No one knows what wrong with me either so im not sure how i have it as they are so strict!
I have muscle/joint problems in my right shoulder, back, hips and pelvis. Started as undiagnosed whiplash then SPD then ending up under a car while on crutches with SPD (well crutch, cant hold anything with right hand!) I had 2 very close pregnancies which made the SPD very bad. Doctors just pass me from one consultant to another. I also suffer with faining which seems to be my way of dealing with the pain. When i saw a DLA doctor i had fainted twice that day - couldnt sit, hadnt laid flat for about a year and had to be held over the toilet by hubby, and was 5 mths pregnant with my 3rd and a at home mum to a 3 yr old and 7mth old baby! He was so sympathetic and i think thats how DLA was awarded. At the time there was no way to know if it would last a year or the rest of my life. So i dont think DLA is for people with life long problems only.
Over a year on now and im on yearly checkups with DLA.... waiting for MRI scan to get some kind of diagnosis. Painkillers and anti depressants is all thats going on with me really. Had my 1st visit with a chiropractor today. He says if i have treatment twice a week at £50 a week, i could get back 60% improvment in 5-6 years! im only 22 i want to be fixed!!!!

Hi I agree with what has been said previously, contact welfare rights to help fill out form it is a disgrace but it is in the way you word your answers and don't play down your illness whatever it is, if it is something like arthritis where you may have good days and bad days ensure you answer based on a bad day. I was awarded lower rate on first attempt and didn't appeal, I was later told when speaking to someone from the benefits office (on a seperate matter) that they always decline you or offer least amount possible to 'test the water'

Get help when completing forms don't try to do it on your own.

I feel so mad that people who really deserve these benifits are out therer and can not get them.
A lady i know from school informed us all last week that she has been put on the highest rate of disablility allowance indefinatly( she has ment to have a bad back) and will be having a brand new mobility car in march, fine apart from she plays in a netball team every week, walks to school twice a day about a 15 minute walk each way, looks after a elderly lady and is responsible for all the household shopping, on top of this her husband has a very good job around 30k a year ( i know this a my dh used to work with him).
How the hell does she get these benifits when others who can not walk 2 steps cant!!!

Your civic duty is to bring the above to the attention of the DWP...https://secure.dwp.gov.uk/benefitfraud/
