Most cats are fastidious and there is no need to bathe them - they will do it themselves.
For long haired cats, esp those that are getting on in years, they will need regular grooming, and checking of their back end - which may need a bath!
However, generally speaking there is no need to bathe a cat! It will cause you more grief than its worth, in 95% of cases for no good reason.
Cats REALLY hate being bathed - if they smell, then there are sprays available. I have DLH boy who comes home covered in all sorts, but always cleans himself, eventually, and doesnt smell.
However, if you are at all worried that your cat has come into contact with something toxic, ie Jeyes fluid etc, then do bath them...swear lots and use lots of towels, but do bath them, and seek vets advice.
But thats the only time I would advice even 'trying' to bathe a cat!
Unless its a bengal of course lol!
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

& wouldn't do that to either of mine0 -
A toilet wipe - there could be toxic stuff in that....
a baby wipe or a few is far preferrable. There are animal wipes PAH used to sell them too but they are expensive (for what they are).0 -
My kitty came home with oil on his coat - he's nearly all white with a black tail and a few black blobs here and there like the OP's cat. The absolute best way to clean him up is to use the dry shampoo which is made from chalk dust. Just sprinkle it on and then comb out. It really helps if the cat is used to being combed then he won't know the difference! The chalk absorbed the oil and it was super easy to comb out.
I have attempted to wash squashed dingleberries off my fluffy cat's butt (apologies to those who may be eating or who are of a nervous disposition). What a nightmare. In the end I've got him by the scruff with one hand and applied wetted facecloths and just chucked them away afterwards.
Getting cats wet isn't my favourite pastime, I always end up with at least one new scar and so I try to avoid applying water directly to the beasties.0 -
Arggghhhhhhh
No I've never washed my cat & never will. I don't advocate others do it either.0 -
I always used to bath our old two right up till a month before they died at a grand old age.If You See Someone Without A Smile......Give Them One Of Yours0
