Do you ever wash your cat?

have you tried using a damp micro fibre cloth (preferably new and clean one! I label a special one with a paw print so OH dun use that to wipe the countertop with
) to wipe down your Jimmy White
(sorry can't resist)? I used to bathe mine when they were little, one enjoyed it, one didn't and like the others have said, we wear heavy fleeces but still get shredded now and then:rotfl:, so have stopped a few years ago. now I just wipe them down with a dampen (with hot water) micro fiber cloth every now and then and they're nice and clean and I stay allergy symptoms free :T 0 -
Trying to immerse a cat in water will usually lead to tears (yours).
However you may have more luck standing him on the draining board and rubbing him with a damp flannel, getting wetter and wetter, and once he's wet you can pour a cup of water over him to rinse.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

We rescued a litter of 3 who were so filthy they refused to wash themselves so they were bathed and have been fine ever since.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Yep. Usually once a year for the shorthaired ones. More frequent for the Maine Coon as she sometimes soils her rear end if she's been pinching someone else's food.
Wait for hot summer's day. The clue is the cat comatose on the floor gasping slightly.
Cat follows you into bathroom. You shut bathroom door. You have towels ready. (and in my case, Pears soap). You run a very shallow warm bath/sink if sink is big enough. Cat still milling round wondering when you're going to give up and just give her the entire box of crunchies.
Scruff cat with left hand, lift rear end with right. Place cat in bath, hold by scruff as you wash cat with right. DO NOT loosen your grip.
Rinse horrified cat. Lift and wrap in towel. DO NOT loosen your grip.
Carry horrified cat into another room. Towel dry and allow to sprint off under your bed.
Cat comes out again about 3 hours later, feeling nice and fluffy. Feed fluffy with nice treats.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

When my cat was just a kitten i often had to bathe her did it in the sink started with just a drip out of the mixer tap and she saw it as a game found the more relaxed you were about it the more she tolerated it kept her collar on while doing it must admit she has a facination for running water and will still go up and drink from and play with the tap while it is running0

Hehe, some funny stories on here! Might try him with the dry shampoo from Pets at Home, but first I will try the microfibre cloth as I already have one. He is a rescue cat, so still a bit nervous, and I think bathing him might set him back a bit.0

If it's dry dirt you could probably dislodge most of it with a fine toothe comb....
I used to bathe my cats, many years ago, but the cat we have now has never had a bath, and doesn't need it. ( well, she has smelly feet, but they would still smell whether she had a bath or not:p)b We do comb her though, as she's not got a kitty friend to wash her back for her, so we comb it and she loves it.:)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

my two year old cat has had regular showers since he was a kitten.
it started off because he had a fascination with the toilet and the lodger kept forgetting to put the lid down :rotfl:. so he regulary had a rinse in the shower!
then he escaped one night and came back with ringworm and had to be bathed in special solution every three days for a month
he is less accident prone now so he is only washed when he needs it.
i find that the best way to do it is with two people:
mix up shampoo with water in plastic jug and put on floor
get shower to correct temperature
one person holds cat by scruff of neck whilst the other sprays with shower
tip jug of shampoo and water over and both scrub - minding eyes and ears
rinse with shower
wrap in warm towel and give treats
mine is so used to it that i use the hair dryer if it is not the middle of summer
result is fluffy cat with shiny white fur :T
i would NEVER try it with my other cat he was a rescue kitten and is even to scared to go outside (plus he gets very sharp very quickly!)it's nice to be important but more important to be nice!! :kisses3:0 -
The above has it perfectly - I would trim the claws first too.0

When we've had to bathe our two we do it in the kitchen sink and it takes two of us! They're pretty good though, we sit them in it and hold them by the shoulders so they don't move and can't rotate and climb up you. Fortunately my little boy would never hurt a fly and even if he does turn and get his paws on your arm he doesn't use his claws.
We deliberately washed them when they were young to get them used to it, but we've only needed to do it a few times each. Not done it for over a year I'd say. We got the raspberry pet shampoo from PAH, and they come out with a light raspberry smell all fluffy.0
