I love all the chit chat and the younger girls (juniors) are always great craic.

But in the swanky salons I used to go to, (T&G etc) I was always a bit intimidated by the scarily trendy badger mullet girls and there was never a laugh or a joke in them. I was younger then so more easily intimidated. blush.gif

  • I'm glad I came across this thread. The salon I go to is about 5 miles away and they charge me about £25 for wet cut (and that is when I wash my own hair at home! - they won't charge me less as they don't have a price for dry-cuts). But after seeing this thread I have found a salon only a mile away that does dry cuts for £14.

I hate going to the hairdresser's, I hate all the mirrors in there, the polite chat about holidays and celebrities, and I especially hate the feeling of having someone else washing my hair.

So for some years now I have always just had a dry cut. Started at £8 but over the years has crept up, I think it's £11 now. I'm perfectly happy with the cut and don't have to go through the ordeal of having a stranger wash and massage my hair, plus I get to spend less time in the salon ;)

Edited: to say, I'm not a complete cheapskate, I do always leave a good tip as they do a good job!

Im with you there. I dont mind so much someone washing my hair but I hate being sat in front of the mirror for what feels like hours.

I got my hair coloured once - I was ready to kill time I came out. Takes me an hour start to finish at home - I was there for THREE hours. Such a waste of three hours

Exactly. I used to get my colour done at the salon but apart from the waste of time, I was always chilled to the bone by the time I came out. I now do home colouring and while it is working, I can while away the time on the internet! Not to mention the immense saving of cash:T

Wow where in the uk is that? For my small village hairdressers (pretty average run of the mill place- nothing flashy etc) it's 35.00 for the junior to was cut and blow dry!

Think I might have to go further afield!!
Mega cheap, I agree. But not if you're used to the junior and expecting the price to be similar :o:rotfl:

I used to pay £70 for a cut and blow dry with the salon director. 13 miles away (in my little village :p) I have the salon owner and pay £20 for the same treatment. Had my hair coloured just before Christmas though - all over colour - and paid £50 which I wasn't overly pleased with :undecided When he'd booked me in, he was talking about some lowlights, rather than all over.

The director did always give me an excellent cut and he always talked over what I wanted/what he thought, etc, but the salon owner is excellent too, he knows what I like, I know he's a bit crazy and he always does my hair fab. He was literally jumping around like a school boy when I like him cut it from bra strap length to a chin length bob :rotfl: and at £50 cheaper for the same treatment, well I can live with that :)
Last time I went locally I paid £160 for cut & brazilian blow dry - totally not worth it.
Aww, I'd wanted to try that :(

Mind you, it's probably a good thing you said it wasn't great :A
  • I pay £18 for a cut and blow dry at a local, out of town salon every 3-4 weeks. I have fairly short hair that grows like wildfire and loses all shape and control within that time.
I had been thinking about just having a wet cut, then putting some sort of hat on to get home.
Off to check my salon's price list now!
From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!

Brazilian blow dry is a conditioning treatment which injects keratin into your hair. It improves the condition and reduces frizz, for supposedly up to 3 months.

I've just had one done through Groupon for just £58, my first try. Am liking it so far, just hope it lasts! Now I can wash my hair, dry it, and go. No messing about with various anti-frizz serums and shine sprays.

Also seems to have made my natural hair colour far more vibrant.

I too have had a Brazilian, paid quite a lot will only be able to afford if I can do on Groupon next time. I am 64 and it has made my hair look years younger - no frizz, totally maneagable , wonderful shine.
For anyone with long hair it would be truly amazing, no need to get the straighteners out any more for weeks and weeks.....
I just style mine v quickly in the morning and, no matter what, it looks the same in the evening, just flattens a little during the day perhaps. Mind you its only weekk one so its at its best.
But I am smitten and in love ........

I have had an idea, could people post if they go to a hairdresser (salon or mobile) who is consistently good and very good value for money? I know we live all over the country but it would def help some people!

I would love to kick off, I live in chelmsford, but unfortunately I can't- currently I am one of those people who pay far too much to get my hair done and I really would like to cut back (no pun intended!)
