£13 for a blow dry???

  • I hadn't been to the hairdressers since June so was desperately in need of a cut. Went to my usual salon and ended up with my hairdressers daughter doing it (she's only just fully trained) and being charged £25!!!! I was gobsmacked. I'm sure I only paid £18.50 back in June, and that was for the owner to cut it (several years of experience and trained by Toni & Guy). Somehow I don't think I'll be going back.
  • A Cut and blow dry in my favourite salon is £35 but I adore them.

I pay £18 every 6 weeks for a friend of mine to come to me at home for a cut and blowdry, as it is her own mobile "hairdressers" she doesnt charge me but I insist on paying what she charges on her website. My daughter however pays £30 every 6 weeks for a cut and blowdry at a good salon in town (her money from jobs she does) she only this week paid £65 for cut and highlights put in (t section I think she called it).Again her money I would never pay that much but it does look nice

I paid £9.90 for a wet cut the other day.

If I wanted a wet cut and a blow dry, it would have cost me £24!

My hair is long and thick and I was told it would take about an hour to dry my hair. That's funny cos my hair is naturally curly and it's never taken me an hour to dry!

I washed it in the end, walked to the hairdressers, had it cut, walked home and dried it myself.

If I'm going for a trim, I wash my hair then go to the hairdressers, get a "dry cut" and walk out with it still wet.

If I'm having highlights etc, I walk out with it wet.

I've never seen the point of being charged over the top for having my hair washed and dried, I can do that bit myself for free.

I pay £14 for a wash, cut and blow dry in a lovely salon in the city centre (quiet street so not much 'passing trade', but still fab value). The owner of the salon cuts it, she's very experienced and does a good job. I usually tip the junior girl who washes my hair £3. £17 all in - bargain. Thankfully I love my hair colour so I don't have the expense of getting it coloured. :) Some of my friends pay astronomical amounts to get their hair cut and dyed!!!!

I used to go to another lovely salon for a wet cut, that was only £7 (!) but I used to give her £10 as I felt bad taking change of a tenner. Sadly I can't go there now as it's too far away (it's near where I used to work), but I would recommend her to anyone.

In my younger and stupid pre-MSE days (just graduated, novelty of the pay cheque etc) I paid daft sums of money for haircuts... once I paid £40 for a 'style director' in T&G to cut my hair and it was nothing special! The scales fell from my eyes after that... ;)

I think the scales are falling from my eyes too now after reading all these comments.

I travel such a long way to get there, pay over the odds and get a decent haircut and colour, but I'm sure I can find something nearer as my hair isn't particularly demanding, and I'm paying so much.

I will be searching around for good deals from now on.

Can't believe how little people are paying compared to me!

I had a job interview once; my regular hairdresser wasn't in, so I stupidly asked for the senior stylist to wash, dry and straighten my hair.

    £28

I nearly died right on the spot.

However, I did get the job and it is a very good job, that I love; I felt confident about how I looked, and so I think it must have had an impact.

But I've never forgiven nor forgotten what I was charged!!:rotfl:

£28 well spent then. :D That is shocking for a wash and blow dry, but clearly it paid off in this instance!

p.s. I prefer to have my hair blow dried after getting it cut as well, the hairdresser always takes ages over it and it feels so soft and swishy (IYKWIM!). It feels very indulgent to be fussed over. I only get my hair cut 4-5 times a year though.

My curly haired friends hate having their hair dried after a cut lol! Mine is straight so probably easier to do. The curly gals always have their own drying/styling routine down to a tee and the hairdresser can never live up to their standards! :rotfl:

I hate going to the hairdresser's, I hate all the mirrors in there, the polite chat about holidays and celebrities, and I especially hate the feeling of having someone else washing my hair.

So for some years now I have always just had a dry cut. Started at £8 but over the years has crept up, I think it's £11 now. I'm perfectly happy with the cut and don't have to go through the ordeal of having a stranger wash and massage my hair, plus I get to spend less time in the salon ;)

Edited: to say, I'm not a complete cheapskate, I do always leave a good tip as they do a good job!
