Bailiff Letter Urgent

My Son has been in and out of Hospital for the last 12 months and is also being treated for severe depression. He has just received a Bailff Letter as he has not paid water rates for 2 years. I have helped with heating bills but as I am retired, I do not have funds to sort out this debt.
I do not know what a Bailiff can do as everything in the house is owned by his Landlord.
What can I do?

I think the best thing for your son is to speak to his health care team for advise. They will have experience in dealing with the combination of depression and debt and there is a good chance the bailiff will listen to them a lot more.
If you can then ask your son to dig out all the paperwork relating to this debt - he should have had summons to court if it's now being chased by a bailiff. You need to really try and find this letter and then you need to contact the courts to speak to them about resolving this. His depression is obviously something that needs to be taken into consideration and this is why I think his health care team might be good to get involved to help out with this.

Which company does the letter come from?
  • The letter is from the Bailff Section of the local Court
  • Could I ring the Number on the letter and offer to pay say 10 pounds per month?
  • Hi LT!!

Sorry, no advice to offer - but thought you could do with some HShugs211_32276.gif!!

Hope you get this resolved with the minimum stress, Nats x

  • How much is the bill for? Phone explain the situation and offer the payment you suggested. They can only say NO!

  • Phone them Lemontree explain the situation and the circumstances. Do it asap as if you're like me you'll only fret away thinking about it.

    Good.

Too low for them to try BR.

if your son has mental health problems get his care team to right and get him made a vulnerable person, so they have to back off.

Plus, unless there is enough property to pay the debt by sale at auction, they have to send the debt back to UU as unenforceable.

tell him meantime not to let the bailiffs in the house.

There are charities that will pay water rates for people who are ill, will try and post the info later.

Please do no phone bailiffs, they are designed to freak you out. Write to them, or maybe e-mail.
