Could you re-iterate (just) the main issues for me again?0 -

I think the main points were:- The OP wanted the moon
- On a stick
- Without prior warning
- Despite this, the bank bent over backwards to deal with what to most of us would be an exceptional request
- Free of charge
- Some sensible security measures appear to be in place
- Which for 99.99% of internet users won't cause any issues
- But, hey, let's have a good old moan anyways....
I'm sure I'll be corrected if I've missed any of the main points.Everyone needs something to believe in.

Not sure why you planned on taking £3k in cash to a foregin country;
And exected to get that on the day of travel.
What would you have done if the bank quoted t&c's at you stating that your account did not allow for such large cash withdrawals? (speaking hypothetically here) Surely you'd have been best ringing up beforehand just to make sure that there would not be a problem.
I agree with you on the internet banking though.0 -
For reference here are the A&L T's & C's.
Paragraph 31.4.1 says you can withdraw cash subject to any limits that they tell you about. What had A&L told the OP? It would probably have been in a leaflet with a statement.0 -
I believe there is a technical term commonly used in disputes of this kind.
Find it hidden in these scrambled letters: T W A T
May I suggest that this international business deal-maker, the need for whose presence in the far flung-corners of the world can arise at the drop of a hat, instruct one of his PAs to keep an emergency cash float, in a number of different currencies ranging from the £ to yak skins for barter in Mongolia, at one of his number of sumptuous corporate HQs, lest some prol in a high street bank ever have the temerity not to bend over (backwards? forwards?) on instruction?

I have always worked in the public sector (and been paid accordingly) in not terribly senior, or lucrative, management positions, and have on several occasions been expected to go overseas at very short notice as the original poster described. Therefore perhaps not necessarily the case that s/he has the resources that the previous poster assumes. Having said that, I would always phone the bank first to see if cash is available, and phone my credit card provider and tell them that I was going to be in such and such a country and please don't disallow transactions from there.0

They might have done. When I needed to withdraw a large sum of cash from my local A&L they said they only have cash delivered once a week, on Thursdays. Luckily I was 'phoning them on a Wednesday to collect the cash on Friday, but if I'd been 'phoning on a Thursday I'd have had to wait a week..0 -

The only hiccup i have had with A&L is exceeding the daily use limit of my debit card. There is no mention of a limit for card purchases in the T&C's.
I bought a car and then went to the PO to tax it. The card was rejected. I then tried to withdraw cash, same again. Luckily it was in banking hours so I went into the branch, who know me well, and they issued me the cash but had to override both the exceeding use and the minimum withdrawal.0 -
Find a Banana Republic Bank that will deal with your unreasonable demands.
Don,t expect any good bank to pass large amounts of money over the counter without ID.0 -
