HIgh eon dual fuel bill for 1 month (mainl gas)
HI I've just had a dual fuel bill from EON for 1 months dual usuage. The bill has come to £212.13 estimated but now with actual readings £192.19 from 8th Jan 11 - 17 feb 2011.
Our previous bills have been between £60 - £70 per month being on Eon track and save 3. for dual fuel
It ended in Feb and we were put on a low tarriff but still with the price rises the tarriff surely won't tripple the charge per kw of gas used
We have worked out that the gas usuage has increased dramaticallly
our usuage in jan was 2985 and now 4613 pkwh
please can the representative from Eon help me as i cannot figure out such a high price rise in this months bill.
thank you

Make sure that the gas conversion calculation is appropriate for your meter, i.e is it metric or Imperial.
If you have a metric meter, and the calculation assumes an imperial one then your end up with a bill thats 300% too high.
You will of course be using more gas atm due to the cold weather. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I've tried to figure out what the reason can be behind the high price even with using more gas in winter it was never that high.
Right - I've had a look on my metre at it says imp/kwh so am imperial metre - how do i calculate the reading - i was looking on another post and this is what i've figured out- correct me if im wrong
used 4616 kwh of gas
548kwh electricity
so 4613 divide by 32 equals 144.15 (but what does this figure mean)0 -
What are your opening and closing meter readings for gas and electricity, with dates. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

i don't understand what u mean/ g from last months to this month billing period?
Date of bill 8th jan -17th feb
321kwh electric jan 8 - feb 17th 6187
2985 kwh gas jan - feb 17th 4922 both are actual readings0 -
No I mean what did the gas meter indicate in January and now in February? That gum you like is coming back in style.0
-
the bill i received january 8th the gas metre reading was 4789 read on 6th jan 321 kwh elec used
electric for bill received jan 8th electric reading was 61418 read on 6th jan 2985 kwh gas used
in feb bill received dated 14th feb- gas merte reading was 4922 read on 17th feb
electric metre reading was 6187 read on 17th feb0 -
From the gas readings you used 133 imperial gas units = 4202 Kwh, costing in the order of £168.
Rather a lot I'd agree, but its dependent on the weather, size of your property, the temperature you are running the system at and the length of time you are running it per day.
Not forgetting if it heats water as well, baths/showers etc. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
i've worked out to the 133 part how did u get the next part of the calculation.
Also we've just had a new combi boiler put in on 1st feb, has no heating for 2 days so how on earth have we managed to use this much gas. We didn't even use this much during the winter with our old boiler with the heating on for nearly 2 hours morning and 2 hrs at evening and with our gas fire on
we have an electric shower, only have heating on for less than an hour in morning and evening - now with new boiler, have an electric cooker
do u think our metre is leaking gas
got up to 4202 part now to work out the costing0 -

144 would be the number of meter units used - you subtract the difference between two meter reads and multiply that difference by the (approx) 32.
eg,
meter read one 4789
meter read two 4922
meter units used 4922 - 4789 is 133 units
approx 32 kWh per meter unit so kWhs used is 133 x 32 = 4256 kWh
Don't be confused by the fact that your kWhs used is (by coincidence) a similar number to your gas meter readings.0 -
argh i'm sooo confused done ur calculation and penrhyn - more familiar with hers - but cannot work out how it's cost £168.0
