in Mobiles
HI folks, my Dad's in Thailand for 10 days for work, and he's taken his blackberry phone with him - I can send him text emails for very little cost to him but I wondered are there any access numbers or ways to call his UK mobile number whilst he's abroad that aren't going to cost me & him a packet?
Many thanks
Many thanks

Yep, it's using blackberry email server when he gets in range of wifi and plain text emails with no formatting or pics cost pence instead of £s.
he's not very tech savvy so not sure if he'll manage to send back any emails though!0 -
OK, right. As long as he keeps to wifi he'll be fine. Just tell him to make sure his mobile data is switched to off.
There's no extra cost to you to call him, but depending on which network he's on there could a cost to him to receive the call. The info should be on his networks website. . .0 -
So, if I use an 0844 access number to call his UK mobile would that work?
I'm very fuzzy about mobiles, sims etc0 -
If you call his UK mobile number by any means, he will still get hit for the costs of his roaming. May be too late for this trip, but he'd probably be better off with a local Thai SIM card for his mobile, or even taking a cheap tri-band unlocked mobile with him just for that. Then you call that mobile using something like Telediscount (0844 numbers etc.) and it costs him nothing to receive the call, while costing you a few pence a minute.
