It was using a proxy server, so I have gone into there and unticked the box.

I know, but I cannot use IE to register. Avast is coming up with renewal reminders, but if I try to renew, it is taking me via IE which is not working.

Many thanks, that seemed to work, because I have rebooted, and IE now works. I have also managed to install Google Chrome (just how many browsers do I need?;):D), and linked to and read my mail from there.
I still have a problem, in that I cannot load the Windows Updates??
Avast is running OK, and I have registered for the free version, so I am covered again.
I ran Malwarebytes this morning, and it brought up 11 errors.
Why would Malwarebytes pick up stuff which Avast has failed to spot, or should it be the other way round?
    Thanks again,
    Andy
