My three neighbours have had loft conversions, they each cost £30k - it is not just a case of fitting the stair case and new floorboards, it is a major piece of work with new joists, bracing etc.
When we bought our house four years ago the decor was 14 years old, (nice 80's style)! but they had neutralised the hallway, put down a wooden floor and had original features in the front door. That was what impressed us (well, the location etc as well).
On the laminate floor issue - yes, it might not look expensive, but you try living with three pre schoolers with muddy boots and sloppy eating habits and see what your carpet looks like then! Sooner have something I can wash than ghastly unhygenic carpets when my little ones are crawling!
We got five asking price offers and one above asking price when we put our house on the market in September (all in a week), so our laminate clearly did not put people off.0 -

Totally agree with this, have 2 year old twins, think what they'd do to a carpet!!!!!! I love my laminate and sanded floors, easy to keep clean!JUBOP:j0 -
I agree, dump the laminate thought. But real solid wood flooring is great..0
