But surely they would have told him that he actually wants Money Transfer
    No, not always.
Not if you are talking about call center employees.
They will answer the question you've asked and not give you additional information.
The problem is worse if English is not their first language.

Let me give you an example.
I phoned BT and asked them what the charge was for paying by cheque rather than direct debit.
They kept insisting there was NO CHARGE.
The did NOT offer the information that there was a discount for DD because I was asking about charges.
What I actually wanted to know was the difference in price and that's the question I should have asked, but they were stuck on repeat denying there were any charges applied.
You really need to ask the right questions and use the correct terminology to talk to call centers.
The job has been de-skilled to low paid people reading scripts rather than skilled advisors answering questions.

Ironically I would say First Direct are an exception in that they offer service that's generally regarded as exceptional.

Yes, I see where you are coming from.
However I got nice english bloke last time I rung Virgin (last week).

From the way OP is being clear on this thread I guess they wouldn't actually guess what he wanted though:p Not being nasty, but he started a bit scarce on information...

Yes, I got English people when I phoned BT :-)
Didn't get the info I wanted though.

I am sure you are right about a mis-communication.

No, the original post has been removed by the OP
If you think of it as 'us' verses 'them', then it's probably your side that are the villains.

  • It's ok. I kept a copy of it. Here it is.

"I wanted a service from First Direct. They told me how much it would cost. I said, fine, thanks, I accept. They performed the service exactly as I asked.

They've now charged me the amount they told me they would, for doing exactly as I asked them to. Unscrupulous bar-stewards."

I think that was the gist of it...

It's a real shame when people don't listen.
I come here to find out if my views are right or wrong and if everyone tells me I'm wrong then I question them.
  • Interesting - I think this must be the first time I've seen 2 pages of answers and not one single question

Never had to reverse engineer a thread before :D
You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...
