How long does it take for DLA (mobility)

  • Why phone if you're sending hard copies why not just send the evidence?

    Hardly constant and hardly pointless, if you're concerned about your claim phone! Don't listen to the keyboard warrior Revtimms! It's your claim and I'd recommend you contact Norcross and ask. They will be polite and helpful and although they won't tell you the result of your claim they "should" tell you the stage it's at.

    It can take 10 days before hard copies are recieved and added to a claim so phoneing and letting them know that you are sending further evidence means that a descion will be delayed until the the new evidence has been added.

    Anyway my opinion on the original matter is phone Norcross if you're in anyway concerned. It won't effect your claims outcome and the staff will answer in an helpful and usually pleasant manner.

    first claims dont go to norcross in Blackpool but to a regional disability centre for your area they are your paper work is then transfered to blackpool after 6 months so time scales for 1st claims vary depending where you live

    A peice of evidence came in that we were not expecting and we wanted it to be considered so my husband rang them and explained, they are now waiting for the hard copy before going forward.

    Sometimes, Harry, new information comes up after you have sent off the forms.

    I lose my balance, and one of the questions on the form is 'when did you last fall'. After sending in my renewal, dating last fall, ect, I then fell and broke a bone in my foot. That evidence was then sent off after the renewal forms had been sent.

    It does say on your form, if you have not heard after x amount of weeks, to give them a call. I would do that if I was in the OP's situation.

    Thankfully, my renewal only took five weeks, so, apart from sending the new information, there was no need to call, but I would have enquired, had it taken longer.

    Sorry to be pedantic here, but the DLA Helpline is not based at Norcross, it is actually based at Warbreck House in Blackpool. They are a very busy Helpline dealing with approximately 160,000 calls a week. Customers are discouraged from merely "progress chasing" however, if you really want a progress update then feel free to ring and they will be happy to help. You are also able to ring and give them further information over the telephone, which the Helpline staff will forward onto the relevant team dealing with your claim.

    The timescales quoted above are slighty out. The current timescale for dealing with a new claim is approximately 8-12 weeks. Once you receive your decision you have a period of 4 weeks to either request an appeal or a reconsideration (if of course you are not happy with that decision). If you choose a reconsideration (which can take up to 12 weeks to deal with) and are not happy with that new decision then you have a further 4 weeks to submit a written appeal. Once the appeal has been submitted it will take a further 12 weeks for it to processed and prepared for submission to the Tribunal. During this time the DM will look at the claim again to see if they can change the decision and avoid it having to to appeal. If they can't change the decision then then submissions will be forwarded to the Tribunal Service (a copy goes to Customer, and their rep if they have one). Dependant on how busy the Tribunal Service are will determine how long it takes for them to list it for appeal although it can be several months. Once the claim has been sent to the Tribunal Service it is out of DLA's hands and any progress chasing regarding a Tribunal date should be via the Tribunal themselves.

    I didn't say that.

    I said I lose my balance, which means I fall often.

    I had further evidence of falls and sent it in after my claim was submitted.

    If the higher rate mobility DLA was granted because someone only had one fall, I would agree with you on the review, but, since losing my balance and falling is only a small part of the problems I face, I'm happy to have my case reviewed any time :)
