How long does it take for DLA (mobility)

How long does it generally take for someone to hear about an application for the mobility component of DLA?
They have been waiting a few weeks now, and although they have had an acknowledgement there has been nothing about whether or not it has been awarded or whether a medical is needed?
I think they are hoping that a medical would not be needed.
Is there a pattern of the longer you wait the more likely you are to be awarded or the more likely a medical is not needed.
Or is there no pattern at all?

  • well mine took 3 months there were waiting for my consultant to reply i then had to have a medical i then heard about 2 weeks later i got dla
  • Is it a renewal or a first time claim?
  • Its a first time claim Harry.
  • If you're overly worried phone 08457 123456 and ask. Obviously the won't tell you the results of any claim but they should tell you if a result is still pending etc.
  • Claims can take up to 13 weeks - I would call after this period.

It can take longer if they need to write to your doctor/specialist and wait for a response but I wouldn't read much into it either way.

the timings are roughly these :12 weeks initial application time, 2 weeks to ask for a review, 2 weeks to ask for an appeal if unsuccessful at reivew stage, 12 weeks for a second review pending an appeal and up to 18 months for an appeal date where you attend a tribunal which is usually a lay person, a doctor and someone with a legal background depending on backlog and area. good luck x

You have added a non existent stage! If your claim is not successful and you wish to challenge it, it will go to reconsideration then to tribunal. There is no second review between these stages.
    Gone ... or have I?

If people ring all the time how are the staff meant to do their jobs?

Yes ring if its been near the deadline or to add information or ask relevant questions but not for no valid reason.
  • Bit naive to assume that Norcross don't have a switchboard that will monitor the number of calls and inform you if there is a lengthy wait, sunnyone.

Erm you honestly think DLA will add information to an ongoing claim because you've phoned up. lol get over yourself. You're entitled to phone if you wish.

They will add information, you then send hard copies of the information which is what we did on Tuesday.

Constantly phoneing is pointless and ties staff up, common sense if you have any.
