Are surveys seriously worth the time?

Just thought that I would add my experiences on surveys. Been doing them for just under 3 years. Have made about £640 in that time. Thats money I've received. Still due another £200+ in various sites where I haven't reached the payout yet.
Started off doing everything I could at first but only do 3/4 sites on a steady basis now plus the sites where I've still to reach the payout. Had a spell where I was totally fed up with them all and didn't do any for several months. I'm now quite happy doing one or two a day, usually when having a cup of tea or having my breakfast. Works for me. Earning a few quid while not doing anything else. Doing it constantly didn't work for me.
Biggest earners? For me it is pinecone and global test market. Easy to reach the payment levels as well. Have deleted my accounts in a lot of the others that pay less, screen out too much or take too long to reach the payout. But what's true for me may not be true for other people.0 -
Thanks Marteebies! I'll have to try that one.
Thanks for all the replies of your experiences. I haven't started surveys for that long since beginning of Feb ish.
I've found for me Global test market works for me. I think joining loads seeing how things go and sticking to a few "good" sites might work best for me.
Great advise though, nice to hear your stories.Mortgage at Highest:£145,000

Hi little miss, I'm new (but have been lurking) as well, I am part of something like 15 sites, but if you don't try them then you don't know! My first was lightspeed, now mysurvey, they're very good, they pay into your paypal account and the minimum you need is £3.
In the ast 2 years I have probably earned £150ish but I have only recently started to do a lot of surveys, I only have 2 sites until about last november. It's worth it as long as you look at it like a little bit extra.0 -
Just a quick warning in case, like me, you haven't noticed - You Gov is taking 50 points away from my total each time to "pay" for entry into a prize draw survey.
I've just done a survey and this pops up when the survey is finished- an invitation to do another survey for entry into a prize draw - I did it and when I checked my points total they've taken away 50 points - this is the second time I've fallen for this!
It takes a couple of years to get enough to cash out anyway, without this happening!
Have I missed something where they told us about this?
They caught me out with 2 of those one after the other before I realised they were turning the payments into prize draw tickets and there was not a proper survey to complete to enter the draw - annoying as I am only £5 from a payout and often only get 1 paying survey a month never mind 2 at the same time. There are now a lot of prizes in the draw but I prefer cash!0 -
I'm with Newvista and the payout if £50, but luckily I've had a fair few recently. Due my 2nd £50 payment now, only got my last one in August last year. Took me a couple years to do that, I didn't do a survey for over a year as I was too busy! I also do Valued Opinions who's threshold is £10 and pay in vouchers, good for my DVD collection or presents. however valued opinions sometimes doesn't seem worth it, as for £1 its about 20 minute survey! I've had £30 or £40 of vouchers with them in 1.5 years or so and that's not bothering attempting to do surveys some of the time.0

I'm with Valued Opinions and am relatively pleased with them. I like them because they pay out in cash @ £20.
I'm also with MutualPoints who were great when all you had to do was click a link on an email they sent you, but now you have to go on the site and there are few free points to be had unless you want to sign up for loads of carp and be spammed with email. I'm getting to my payout level then probably won't use the site again. They pay in cash at £20.
Pigsback, I find useless, I'm not bothering with that one again 140 piggy points out of 6000 required! EEK! And they take points off you for inactivity.
Online Opinions, is a £50 payout (cash), don't get many surveys but that's ok because I don't do many very often! Still it's cash ticking away in the background!
Toluna, 60,000pts will get you £10 (I think in vouchers). Sounds a lot but the points are easy to get on their site at 15, 30, 45 for a couple of clicks. I must try to get into the habit of doing 15 mins a day on that site.
Ipsos, I've had a few £10 vouchers off them, I think they do Tesco and Argos which I exchange for cash with family members who will use those shops. Just checked, they pay out in CapitalBonds vouchers which are accepted at loads of shopping outlets (www.capitalbonds.co.uk).
You'll never retire on survey earnings but for doing something little and often the vouchers can sure come in handy especially if you cash in around begining of November ready for Christmas.

ETA: Just noticed mine are listed in my sig but the figures are all out of date! lolOne of Mike's Mob, Street Found Money £1.66, Non Sealed Pot (5p,2p,1p)£6.82? (£0 banked), Online Opinions 5/50pts, Piggy points 15, Ipsos 3930pts (£25+), Valued Opinions £12.85, MutualPoints 1786, Slicethepie £0.12, Toluna 7870pts, DFD Computer says NO!0 -
I'd definately say yes, surveys are worth it. I honestly believe if you dedicated yourself to survey sites and similar alternatives you could make a decent wage. As it's been stated the upstart will always be slow until you hit the payouts. Some companies open up more the more you stay with them giving you a better income.
I work full time but I religiously do specific surveys and similar's. I've done this for the past 3 years. I started trying a large variety of them but gradually dropped many and stuck to those I felt were definately worth while, when considering the time taken to do them and receive payouts. Currently I don't do anywhere near as many as I used to because time is increasingly not on my side due to other commitments, it's all about where to draw the line and you simply learn this by trying them out.
The ones I've stuck to include;
- Pinecone Research (2 years) - £208 plus several new products tested (freebies)
- Lightspeed & MySurvey (Now merged into MySurvey) (3 Years) - £197 + £xx unclaimed. Ontop of this, due to very recent commitments I literally have 99 undone surveys for it sitting in my inbox. Also received several freebies from them.
- Shop and Scan (4 years) (This includes other panels within due to loyalty) - £2767.90
- Consumer Pulse (just under 1 year) - £97.50
- Pigsback (3+ years) - I only do this these days for hopefully winning a competition or 2, it's nothing like it used to be - £390 + several competiton wins
I update these figures monthly in excel so those are only last months. None of these take up time where I would consider it's not worth the hassle. Having done them for so long it's systematic.
With todays technology, these can all be done on the go, so it's not like I feel im coming home from work to start another part-time one. Plus it's enjoyable, and ontop of the base rate of payouts they al lcarry and competition element that tends to come your way once in awhile (:
An example of a survey site i stuck to for a year to thoroughly test the water was Global Opinon Panels... terrible, definately not worth the hassle. A perfect example of where the time spent doing it is certainly not financially worth it.
I honestly believe that anyone who has been seriously doing survey sites and similar could do very well from them alone.0 -

Crowdology are ok. Some of the surveys pay pence but the payout is £4.00.

I agree, but the surveys are very short. And the best bit about the site is the speed they pay, the fastest on the net.
When I claim a payment I always play the same game "Race the payment to my paypal account"
I hit the button to get a payment from Crowdology, open a new tab and get into my paypal account as fast as I can, and the Crowdology payment is always there first, I never win.
But I'm always happy to come second0 -
I am a full time mum and I like doing surveys for a bit of pocket money or vouchers to spend on treats for myself!! Have been doing them properly for a year or so and my current payouts are:
Pinecone £60
Valued Opinions £100 (vouchers)
Lightspeed £36
my survey £30
Panelbase £20.75
Harris £50 (vouchers)
global test market £33
pure profile £26.3
Pigsback £10
Synovate £15
crowdology £15.53
one poll £40
Plus some products to test including cereal, hand wash and dishwasher tablets!
I dip in and out of them during the day so I don't feel like I am stuck at my computer and ignoring the kids! The totals soon add up and it is definitely best to sign up to a few. There are some I have signed up to and have never had a survey invite from.0 -
How do you sign up with Lightspeed? I just had a look at the website and it wasn't clear. Sorry if I'm being a bit thick
