    Morning all :)

I have read that the average electric use for a studio/1 bed flat is between 9-12 kWh

I was shocked as on checking my meter I am using 34 kWh a day!

The flat is rented and I think it is the old electric central heating unit that zapping all the power.

Anything I can do (other than not use it)? Would my landlord be obliged to upgrade this?

Help would be most appreciated :o

9-12kWh is the average use without any heating or hot water.

34kWh a day in winter is perfectly reasonable.
  • OK, I can accept that 34kWh is acceptable for general use and for the heating

    However.....

seeing that the heating system does not get very warm when it is on max and on for at least 5 hours should my landlord not atleast fix it so it gets hot?!?

I havent got a problem for paying for all the kWh it uses, I just want some sort of benifit from running it. At the moment money is draining from the meter and I get very very very little heat from it.

As I said previously this system is old.... very old. if it cant be fixed should my LL not upgrade it?

I know you want us to say yes the landlord should provide better heating but the law only requires that heating is provided. If you have to keep it on 24 hours a day to keep the place warm then the landlord has provided a heating system. There is nothing in law that says it must be economic to run. I'd not use it and switch to an electric radiator/convector heater.
