I'm in the West Midlands too and it really is dismal.

I don't think minimum wage was ever intended to be good but was intended to stop exploitation, it's only been around for 12 years before which some people were exploited with 50p and hour wages. Really if people have few or no skills I don't see how they can expect more than minimum wage unless they work their way up from the bottom. If you can't be bothered to work for minimum wage then I really do hope you lose your dole money. There's no sense crying over every mistake.

It makes sense what you say but I can see why people complain about it, especially when certain jobs which deserve to be higher paid are more often than not, still NMW, so it's not always to do with skills. There are also those who are better off on benefits than taking a minimum wage job (personally I think the whole system is screwed up, but that's another story).
Incidentally, I don't sign on at present but I'm still a job seeker. Whether I was signing on or not, I'd rather be in a NMW job than signing on. Though I do realise that many people are in a very different situation.

I can understand why people complain about it and don't blame them for wanting more, I would and do support the minimum wage being increased, but refusing work because it is minimum wage is disgraceful. An attitude like yours fruitloops is much better than that of Olias. There's no sense crying over every mistake.

The job centre in my city may as well be called the 'cleaning' and 'telesales' and 'avon' recruitment company.
However, I see plenty of jobs advertised on company websites, the local newspaper, local job recruitment sites and the Gumtree that don't make it into the Jobcentre website so I never think the JCP vacancies are representitive of the actual number of jobs available in the local area.0 -
Here in Cornwall it is appalling.
totally agree my partner been out of work a while applied for many jobs signed to agencies cold called sent cv's etc and has had one interview.
he went to working links last week to be told theres no new jobs

Are there any duplcates?
How many have been auto re-issued but have actually been filled?
How many are specific (i.e. say "experience essential" or similar)?
How many call centre or commission based sales jobs. Not that I have anything against these jobs, I'm just wondering
Funnily enough I didn't read every single advert in minute detail, nor am I party to the actual validity of each job. :mad:0 -
I'm in the East Riding and unemployment here is 3% however its lower in towns like mine but higher in towns like Bridlington which is a typical seaside "holiday on the dole" town. Move just down the road to Hull and its 7.9%.0
