Checking ISA holdings

We have several ISA accounts between us and I'm a bit unsure how much was deposited in each account and when.

Short of phoning round and battling with security and passwords is there any way of knowing if we've used up our current allowance. Who keeps checks to make sure you don't deposit over your annual allowance?

Comments

  • As you can only subscribe new money to one ISA per person in each tax year, each of you should have only one ISA which you need to check to ascertain whether you've used your full annual allowance. If you have subscribed to more than one cash ISA since April 6th, 2010, you will find that all but one are not valid.

ISA providers report to HMRC, and they will be in touch with you if you have subscribed to more than one cash ISA in the same year.
  • Old ISAs are probably not earning great interest - you could consider transferring them to amalgamate them to simplify your admin.
