Labrador whining constantly after neutering today

If he's eating he's doing better than mine did when he got snipped recently! Sounds like wounded pride (well wouldn't yours be a little wounded if you went to have a good lick of your assets to find they'd been liquidated? Mine's face was a picture when he stuck his tongue down there for a good slurp and found they'd gone!) and playing the sympathy card - but I did notice the anasthetic hit the dog much harder than I've ever known it affect cats who were just a little wobbly after their snips, the dog was really a forlorn, dejected figure of supreme pity (for about a day).Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0

Glad to hear he is feeling a bit better. xxx I always think if they are eating with relish then there cant be a lot wrong.0

Sorry, debtfree, just had to say, Supermezzo what a cute picture, presumably of your black lab, sooooo sweet.0

Blimey - I had forgotten that was on there, Murphydog999. That was the last but one GDBA puppy called Woody.
Maybe I should change that to something more recent i.e. Pip, the last black lab GDBA puppy (spot the theme here). It aint over til I've done singing....0 -
How lucky I feel to have had so many great replies to help me and my doggy through a stressful couple of days. I'm glad to report that since lunchtime today he has hardly whined at all and is pretty much back to his usual waggy, licky self. Anyone have any thoughts about the suitability of dressing him in a loose pair of shorts to stop him licking his bits? He has an Elizabethan collar but I can't see him doing any sleeping in it tonight, although I can't risk him licking his bits in the night.
Thanks again for all your help.0 -
It sounds like you have an excellent vets, with post op phone calls, and pain killers dispensed post op, so if at all worried I would give them a call.
I imagine he will be due back in any day now for a post op check - they will have a good look at his wound, and take his temperature, and will let you know if there are any problems.
If you are very worried, I would suggest phoning in the morning and asking for a nurse check - they will refer to the vet if they have the slightest concern about pain or infection.I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Thanks tankgirl1. The vet is indeed really good. He is going back tomorrow morning for his post-op check-up so fingers crossed all will be well.0
