Your grandson should be handing pretty much all his JSA over, keeping enough back for fares, stamps etc. He should also be taking on the majority of the chores, such as cleaning, gardening, etc. This will ease the burden on yourself and your wife.

Your grandson should pay you rent/board. However I don't see why you think the taxpayer should be paying you rent as some sort of reward for helping a family member out. Clearly working every day until retirement doesn't completely deter people from wanting to scam a few quid from the state.

Ask for(demand) board out of his JSA.

He is now on a course with the Princes Trust.

My question is this.....as we are O.A.P's, the cost of keeping a teenager (bus passes, clothes, food etc) falls onto our pensions, but I can't help but feel, that jobseekers allowance isn't supposed to cover all his living expenses AND rent, were he not living with us.

I can't help with your original enquiry but he would more than likely get his travel re-imbursed by the Prince's Trust (depending on the course he is on). I work for Prince's Trust and my young people buy a weekly bus/train pass and they get it reimbursed the following week. They have to pay the first £5 towards travel but get the rest back (a week in hand). As far as I know it's a national policy, although I am in Wales so it may be different elsewhere.

I know if I was looking at this claim I would ask the question would the son be evicted if we didn't pay HB. The answer to that is likely to be no so therefore HB would be declined.

Considering the grandson hasn't handed a penny in since he started staying there and hasn't been tossed out yet then I'd say that's a fair assessment.

Nothing been mentioned by Princes Trust here flutterbyuk25.
Perhaps it's because of his JSA.

As I've been the taxpayer all these years fatballz, I've probably paid more than you to people who get it all for nothing.
I asked a polite question, to make sure there was nothing he was ENTITLED to, which is being missed because we know nothing about it.
The question was answered very efficiently by others, without accusing me of trying to 'scam' something he wasn't entitled to.
I too, still pay tax on my pension.

Those on JSA qualify for it here so it's worth asking. The courses are designed to help people into employment/education/training and they shouldn't incur costs to do so hence the re-imbursement.

If you want to tel me which area he is doing the course and which course it is (PM me if you'd prefer) I can try find out Monday for you.
