Ryan Air flight first name change

I booked a flight with my friend's correct surname but wrong first name (she doesn't use her actual first name,i.e. The one on her passport). Ryan Air charge £100 to change it - what are the chances of getting on the flight with no-one noticing?!

The chances of getting through with a completely different name are very low. Would it be cheaper to buy a new ticket?Gone ... or have I?0

Call them. They are normally very good at changing Chris to Christopher for example free of charge, but I don't know if it is a completely different name.0

£100!!!!!!!!!! omg that is horrendous! i can t believe that sorry not much help i know but that is really excessive, my daughter uses her middle name as her first name, so i have to consciously remember to put her real name when i book seats on flights, also my brother does the same and i booked him a flight a good few years ago and forgot to put his "official" first name but he just got on as normal apparently they didnt even mention it! he did have both names on his passport tho but not in the order i wrote them:( i was panicking thinking he wouldnt get on
sorry cant offer you any more help, is it not cheaper to just book another flight?!Compers challenge 2024 wins!!!!.... Oct £60... £10 free spins, £50 palm, m&m pouch0 -

£100 is not horrendous for a name change when you consider that many full service airlines do not allow any name changes. You should also take into account that the charge is for a name change, as luci has described they will correct obvious errors for free or £10.Gone ... or have I?0 -
lol i came across as a little horrofied then didnt i? lol i just cant see how it can cost £100 to change a name!
jet2 charge: £27.50 per person each way
easyjet: £30 (doesnt say one way or return, just says bookings with more than one journey need the same name)
still seems a little excessive for something that i cant see costing them anythingmore than 5 minutes of time. but maybe there is something that costs £100, i will make sure to double, triple check all details before i click confirm
i am flying with ryan air for the first time this year and i am quite nervous that i will get charged for loads when i get to the airport, i hear so many horror stories

You don't quite have the full picture though, Jet2 and easyJet charge the above fees, plus any difference in the fare. So if you booked a flight that was £20, and on the day you changed the name the flight was selling for £50, with easyJet you would have to pay £30 admin fee, and the £30 difference in fare = £60. Also note that Jet2/easyJet is per one way flight, so witht he admin fee and the fare difference, for a return flight, could be even more than Ryanair's flat £100 (which is only per passenger, not each way).
The reason low cost airlines have introduced this is to stop people and/or travel agents booking blocks of very cheap seats on the day they are released, using made up names, and then reselling them to the public for much more, changing the name and making a nice profit.
As long as you fully understand your baggage allowances (and stick to them!), and you print your boarding passes in advance, there is no reason you will get charged loads at the airport with Ryanair, or any other low cost airline.0 -
Have you telephoned Ryanair? You need to do so, and say that you want to correct an error made during the booking process, and NOT ask for a name change. (A name change means transferring the ticket to someone else, which is what costs so much.)0
