I wish I could afford to tell them where to go but can't, I have a young family and right up until I fell ill I had worked all of my life and never taken a penny of benefit (other than tax credits and child benefit). I was affronted to have to apply for ESA but there was no way I could go from earning £200 a week on a part time job to nothing at all so now I get £65 per week and we are sooo much worse off we couldn't go without that money. I feel like im being treated like a criminal for needing these benefits (by Atos, the government ect) and being seen as a scrounger, lumped in with all the cheats ect. It is so demoralising.

I know what you are feeling. I am lucky as all of our children have long leaving just the two of us to enjoy each others company.
If I had been younger with those responsibilities that you have, then yes of course I would have had to fight tooth and nail for what I would have been entitled to.

I experienced having to sign on at the jobcentre when I was unable to work full time. To be honest, I made a telephone claim, then attended a 'meeting' (more like an inquisition) and was told to come back in a few days to sign on again. Enough was enough I thought, I have never been to a more demoralising place in my life. Whilst waiting there seemed to be a cross section of people from all walks of life. Those that certainly didn't make any effort to wash or look respectable to those that were ordinary folk that looked depressed and rejected by all.

Considering that it was a public office, the language that I heard was more akin to the slum areas of the 60's.

I cancelled my claim, never had a penny from them and said to myself that I would never put myself through that again.
Most probably it was the shortest JSA claim in history!!

You should not feel like a criminal or a benefit scrounger. You have a right to an income and a right to be treated with respect. If others make you feel that way, then it is they that have the problem not you.

Politicians have created this current thinking that everybody and anybody on benefits is a lowlife and a scrounger. They have done that for a reason - to gain political advantage!

Thanks so much, hopefully it will all get sorted out. Im a bit worried as i got a letter stating the tribunal should be held in April some time but I am due twins in April by c-section and prob wont be able to attend eek!! Worried about how that will affect my chances.

I was in the support group by the way and my condition is now worse as per gp and cardio reports so totally perplexed as to how I can have failed the medical (other than the blatant rubbish that's been written and loads that's missing lol!).

You have automatic LCW when heavily pregnant and for the first few weeks after the birth.

When I had my son one of my consultants held it against me because I shouldnt be medically caperble of having sex or having a baby, he even asked me how I got pregnant and he didnt appreciate my birds and the bees joke :p I hope atos dont do the same with you.

My sons a strapping lad of 14 now and he was well worth spending nearly all my pregnacy flat on my back with no pain meds.

good luck with the birth and I hope that the three of you will be fine.
