Help With account/cards for germany

Basic rundown is this....

My sister is currently preparing to go to germany for 16 weeks (back end of april) as part of an exchange trip and is in need of some advice regarding the best way to access her money.

She currently banks with halifax who seem to be intrested in getting her a credit card and nothing besides.

basically she would like to have an account that will come with a card that she can use in the atm's in germany and not incur stupid amounts of costs, although from what ive read it seems they all have costs to pay!

also if it was possible to be a uk based bank that could have money put in from our end (the uk) and be available pretty quick incase of unforseen circumstances.

thatnks in advance and ill go back to my reading, probably going to find my answer straight away after this post!:rotfl:

Have you read the "Do you want a debit card instead" section of this page: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-travel-money ?

I have the Metro Bank card which is great, but you do have to apply in person in London to get one...
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning

Then they are giving very good advice. Halifax's Clarity Card uses MasterCard's wholesale FX rate with no percentage surcharge by Halifax. If she puts it into credit before or on the day of a cash withdrawal, she will pay no charges whatsoever. Purchases don't incur charges.
