used car -- help, in case I've made a booboo!
Morning all,
This weekend I pick up my second hand Citreon C4 Picasso, exclusive -08 plate 19k on the clock from a local Citreon dealership.... however, I have just found out about Drivethedeal, and after having a little mooch on there, I think I have made an error.
The dealer has offered me £500 p/e for my Wreg Vectra, and is throwing in that paintwork and upholstery protection thingy... @ the grand total of £10.5k
I have paid £200 deposit....
What do you think I could do to get the dealer to lower the price?
TIA -- I am a bit girly when it comes to motors so dont feel that confident with a salesman.

It looks as though you are too late to do any haggling!
You needed to do that before you got to the paying a deposit stage!0 -
booger... what If I go there with a printout of a car same spec, down the road.... do you think I can use the, "I dont mind losing £200 dep if I am saving £1k" wdyt?Sig ah Sig Ahhh0

In theory, the dealer you have agreed to buy the 08 car from can insist you fulfil your side of the bargain.
In reality, they will probably just keep your deposit and let you walk away.
Have they taxed the car for you? If so, it may mean you are the registered keeper which could complicate things.
The dealer will not be happy having to sell the car with another 'owner' showing on the registration document.
Another point is you may need the local dealer for servicing, so best to part on good terms.
You could try asking them if they can match the drivethedeal price.
It's quite reasonable for you to say you've changed your mind and are now thinking of buying a new car.
If the local dealer can match drivethedeal within a couple of hundred pounds, probably best to stay with them.
It could cost that much to travel to the drivethedeal dealer, who could be anywhere in the country.0 -
Your car seems expensive, CarGiant may only give you a couple of hundred for your Vectra, which is worthless in the trade and CG will simply send it to Chelmsford Car Auction.
Here are some examples.

These are all Grand Picasso's, as they have sold all the C4 Picasso's, they had 10 or so, my mate went to look at one but they where all sold.
You also have to pay an indemnity fee of £91.
You won't get the main dealer, free coffee experience, but there is a very good reason why the majority of Private Hire drivers in London buy their cars form here, I have been to auctions looking for cars for friends and couldn't get them for the prices they charge at CG, the reason being is that CG buy so many they have deals where they buy entire fleets at a time, and therefore get them a lot cheaper than auction, sometimes the ones they reject due to condition etc are the ones that end up at auction.
The wife bought her Clio DCi there in 2009 and even though it is now over a year older, a similar 56 plate Clio diesel at a main dealer is still roughly the price we paid for our one in 2009, I put ours into WBAC last month for a giggle and got an initial offer only £300 less than we paid for it at CG.
Some may not like the supermarket car buying experience, but I have bought loads from here and even though they don't discount the prices advertised, they are competitive enough, especially when you want to put it on finance.
Personally I would take a trip to London this weekend and let the dealer keep the £200, but that is just me.0 -
Thanks guys... I'll stick with it.. for the dealer relationship value I suppose. xxSig ah Sig Ahhh0

The risk/cost from buying from CarGiant being well over the value of the savings. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
Personally I wouldn't deal with any company that charges an " indemnity Fee ".
Are you on commission from Car Giant?? ... you always seem to be listing their vehicles.
Yawn, rather pay £2000 too much and not pay an indemnity fee.
If you came across a place where there was a good deal to be had would you (A) Tell those who might want to know
(B) Keep it too yourself and make sarcastic pointless staements.0
