Outstanding finance on car

I definitely think it's a cause for concern.
Saying that - I've bought a car from a dealer before that showed finance oustanding on their internal HPI report because they assured me they'd cleared it as part of the deal. (they had - but )0 -
Although Arnold Clarke are one of the largest dealer groups in Scotland, there other large groups as well. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0

I am sure that I read somwewhere that when you buy from a proper dealership then you can assume you have good title.
The dealer is required to settle all finance prior to selling the vehicle.
As by selling it for cash they are giving title to the new owner in a single transaction.
I think it is a case similar to mine when they forgot to send the cheque off to settle the finance, hence the finance company will still leave their marker on it.
Has the OP, posted again yet?0 -

Not sure exactly what has changed (girlfriend spoke to them), presumably they contacted the finance company again, and either a clerical error was identified, or they have accepted we are not liable for any debt.
I was never intending to accuse the dealer of wrongdoing, I had assumed it was a previous owner trying to con them, and indirectly us; but clearly the dealer has an obligation to check that there is no outstanding finance before selling the car on.
Incidentally, how do insurers work out the value of a car when settling a write off claim? What is the best website to check a value? Whatcar suggests that for a car of the age and mileage of ours, the dealer and private price is several hundred pounds more that what they are offering us, however another valuation website suggests a price much closer to what we have been offered. Is there an accepted way to get the maximum amount possible from the insurance company?
Just found this post, seems a similar thing happened to the OP that happened to me.
I thought it would be a clerical error.
I wonder how long the thread will run with just bickering instead of tryting to help the OP?0 -
Does anyone have the contact details of Mr Charlie Adair, the CEO of Verve?
I have been subjected to non stop hastle from one of his garages & having no correspondance from their "customer care" team, i have decided its time to take my matter further.
People slag off arnold clark, but my experience with verve recently makes Arnold actualy look like a competent company.0
