You wont have no money you will have chilc benefit, tax credits and child maintenance from the father
OP did not say she received Child maintenance; so you cannot assume she does.
Not all absent fathers pay, some cannot be found, sometimes the mother doesnt know the father (apologies OP I am not saying this is you) and sometimes the father has died.0 -
come to that, 'she' could be a 'he'-not all lone parents are mums! (though given the post about the lip gloss....still you never know)0

Please please make sure you double check any benefit entitlement you may still get when you start work. I trusted the person at jobcentre plus to do it and now two years down the line they are telling me I have been receiving money I was not entitled to. I am starting to feel suicidal about it.0

You will be entitled to a 4 week run on of Housing and Council Tax Benefit, plus a Job grant of £250-this will go into your bank account 7 days from your claim being closed. Also there is something called an Advisors Discretionary fund. You have to ask for help BEFORE your claim is closed down though for this as once your claim is closed they cannot give you anything from this fund as their is nothing to associate it with. The fund is there to help people in your situation where they will not be paid for a few weeks, it could be for bus passes or clothes etc. Basically anything that you need (within reason of course) to help you to start work and to get off benefits is able to be applied for. It is not guaranteed like I said it is discretionary according to your advisor at the Jobcentre. It isn't something that is made public knowledge, but if you ask then they will tell you whether they can help. All of the above apply as long as you are on Income based JSA, if you are on Contribution based you will not get the HB/CT run on but I am not sure about the Job Grant or the Advisors Discretionary fund. Ask your advisor at the Jobcentre what you are entitled to, and like I said don't forget DO NOT sign off until you have made the application for the Advisors Discretionary fund.
Good luck in your new job anyway.
