should staff be crb checked?

My friend works in a childrens play area that opened recently and none of the staff working there are crb checked but should they be?
Staff have to
harness up children
Clean the play frame whilst open for business
Supervise on go kart
Host children's partys
All have contact with children and some staff even pick the children up. Surely this isn't right
What can be done about this?

Yes, I would have thought so.
Contact with children doesn't have to mean actual physical contact with a child.0 -
i would have thought it would have been standard procedure these daysReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0

if the children are left with staff without parents/carers there then yes they should be, but if it's one of the play centres where parents stay while the children play, it's not essential for them to have it, as bad as that sounds.
I'm working in a school, and still waiting on my crb to come back ( was sent 2 weeks before christmas. it has been cleared, as a friend of mine who works for the police has told me so).
as long as I'm never left alone with the kids then I'm ok, I'll always be with another member of staff until it comes back.
it safeguards the staff as well as the kids.0 -
Is it in your friend's job description to check the police computer system to trace CRB checks and advise the subjects on progress?if the children are left with staff without parents/carers there then yes they should be, but if it's one of the play centres where parents stay while the children play, it's not essential for them to have it, as bad as that sounds.

But surely if they are having contact with the children they should be?
MEan there is no cctv in the play frame so what happens if a member of staff is up there cleaning and a child runs down to a parent saying they touched them. Its the staff that get it in the neck because the manager hasn't crbed them.
Surely they must have to be for cases like this to show from past nothing like that happened before.
Would you feel safe letting your children play in a area staff aren't checked?0 -
My knowledge in this field is limited. Are individuals made aware if they are being checked? Do they have to sign to give authorisation. I've been in my job for 9 years, I've not been made aware of any CRB checks, but then again I'm not in a financial job or in contact with children.
I would have thought that such people in immediate contact would have to be CRB checked for child abuses. Especially with all the goings on in previous years.:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:D:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:jMe and the gang!!!0 -
The CRB is not compulsory or the law.
Realistically this will not change; the cost will outweigh the benefit if it did.
Also, the government is scaling back crb checks due to public opinion.0 -
The CRB requirements are being altered and a copy is to be sent to the subject so yes, they will be aware..
Also to add, it isn't a guarantee that the kids are safe as it will only show up people who have been caught already.0 -

You have to fill in a form, offer references, and sign your life away, - know the goverment are changing the process so less people will need to be CRB checked. I'm on my daughters PTA, and presently all members have to be CRB checked. xxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0
