What am I going to do???

My husband walked out of job the other day because of constant racism, it just got too much for him I think.

He has gone to claim jsa (know he will prob get sanctioned and am waiting to see what the outcomes of this will be).

We have informed tax credits etc.

Basically, I only work 10 hours a week (it fitted in whilst I was searching for a full time position and meant I could come off cont based jsa myself!!).

Anyway, due to us having no money at all I had to get rid of the car a couple of months ago so now catch the bus to work (£4 a day, 3 times a week) as it takes too long to walk there and I have a dodgy leg due to nerve damage (doesn't really affect my life, just can't walk 3 miles each way to work so it's not an option!).

So I'm assuming that when and if my partner gets jsa, my earnings will be taken off the couple rate?

I don't particularly want to leave my work, I quite enjoy it. However, it is going to be costing me ten quid a week to get there, that's quite alot when you are living on the bare minimum. The other thing is the days are quite random and change every couple of weeks, this is going to cause problems with my husbands job search as I don't expect his new employer will be quite so flexible.

He is also going to have to stay in the nearest city with his family a few days a week to job hunt as we can't afford travel there everyday and there are many more jobs!!!

So I guess what I am asking is if I resign will there be any implications as I am going to be worse off working due to travelling than I am working? I know it's not much, and some may say a tenner is worth it for your own self worth, but me knowing that during this difficult time the tenner a week could be better spent on food for my family etc.

I just need some advice because I am scared.

He spoke to the managers etc who just laughed it off time and time again, not sure what else could be done? There was no union or anything and other problems just met with a massive reduction in hours for a few weeks as punishment!

it can become very disheartening I guess. He worked there two years and has been applying for jobs the past year, got too much, rather not post the 'end' on here.

What would you have done? I probably would have stuck it out until I got a new job but who knows.

I'm just thinking that maybe the JCP won't sanction him if he had good reason ;) and if he did all he could in addressing the racism.

Oh, I don't know. To be honest they didn't really ask why he was claiming so he said, maybe they will call his employers and ask them, not too sure what they would say. Just gotta play the waiting game I suppose! Hopefully it won't be the full 26 weeks which it says on the website tho.

As you are only working 10 hours you can claim Jobseekers in your own name. It stops when you are working 16 hours or more in a week. As far as the tenner it costs you to get to work as a couple you can keep the first £10 of earnings before it affects the JSA payment so you won't be any worse off in the end (unless your travel costs are much higher)
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Can you not cycle to work? Really bad idea for both of you to be out of work.

I cant cycle no because of the same problem, I could walk was it not so far away but wouldnt be able to walk and then work and then walk home again, oh I just don't know. How does this work? would I have to take my wage slip in each time I get one?

I think I shall see how it goes then, I didn't realise that some was disregarded.

So, do I just have to provide my payslips each time I get one?
