Disposable cameras on the table

Ive suggested to my oh that we should stick some disposable cameras on the table at the wedding for the night time guest to snap away with. He thinks this is rubbish idea, that folk have digital camera and will take their own photo which they can pass on. Im not sure how many people will take photos
Anyone else thinking about this, or is my oh right this is an outdated idea???

  • I did this for my wedding and am really glad I did, we got some lovely photos from them. We got the cameras cheap from Home Bargains and they had some to match our colour scheme. I haven't seen the photos that most of our guests took on their own cameras so would definitely recommend doing it!
  • I never normally post here but just noticed this thread. We did it for our wedding and it was a waste of time and money. Most of the photos were either blurred or of nothing and I don't think we got a single decent one. Everyone kindly gave us their digital photos anyway. One of my friends suggested putting blank cdr's out with prepaid envelopes for people to send their photos back to you - wish we had done this instead although we got everyone's photos anyway!
  • im going to do it and really looking forward to seeing what comes of it- if its good then great if not then oh well
if you want it then do it dont be put off

I did this and it was a complete waste of time, most were blurred or same few people, and then there were the cameras the kids got hold of!!! I like the previous posters suggestions of blank cd, and even include e mail address, cost effective and enviromentally friendly.
Making small changes, hoping they will last....

I seem to remember at one reception taking photos of fire extinguishers, door handles, the ceiling ... I may have been a little piddled at the time! :rotfl:

  • The last wedding I was at had these and whilst I thought it was a good idea my friend said after she got them developed that it was a waste of money as the photos were awful and after a few drinks people were just taking pictures of random stuff which didnt really portray the day.
  • Really, don't bother. They aren't designed for indoor use; the ISO is too low and the flash will be rubbish or non-existent.

Go with the DVD/stamp idea with a small prize for the best photo taken as a thanks for sharing ALL their photos; then some people might pay attention and give you some half decent shots.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

I remember doing something similar at a wedding with disposable cameras ;)

We have set up a photobucket account for our guests to upload their photos to. We have got some small business cards for free from Vistaprint with a design that matches our theme. These went out with the invites and will also be on the tables on the day.

I think that disposable cameras tend to be poor quality, also as said earlier people take silly pictures because they aren't paying. Development costs can also be high.

Another idea people use is to put blank cds on the tables with cards asking guests to upload their photos to the cd and return them.

    xx

  • You could set up a free flickr account dedicated to your wedding.
  • I used to work in a photo lab printing peoples pictures and almost every batch of disposable cameras that came in from a wedding were a complete waste of time - people hadn't used flash, had fingers over the lenses, very random pics etc. Often there wouldn't be a single good photo, such a shame after the cost of buying, developing and printing them. So personally I wouldn't bother.

I will be asking for people to forward their digital pics on to me. I'm also setting up a DIY photo booth and for this I'm buying a cheap digital camera for people to use - you can get some adequate ones for £50 and this isn't much more than disposable cameras would cost in the end.
