  • She won't be leaving untill she finishes her exams in may, I was under the impression that my cb and ctc will continue till August though,

Am I right and if so does this mean she can work during the summer?

As i recall you get her cb till end of august, but if shes not going on to further education ctc finishes when she finishes shool/college.This was what i was told last year, but my daughter went to uni so her ctc finished end of august same as cb instead of june/july when she finished college.HTH
  • Ahh Thankyou, I am obviously gonna have to make a few enquires regarding this, She is applying for full time work in childcare which is where she hopes to go but she does know that once she finishes her exams and doesnt have to attend school anymore then things may change and she will prob have to contribute to the houshold if certain benifts stop.

As much as she doesn't like the pt job she has at the moment she knows she will have to do as many hours as she is offered (which is prob gonna be pretty much full time as they are allways short staffed} in the job she has now if ctc and cb stop as I cant and wont have her sitting around doing nothing if the family is struggling from losing the benefits that we were getting for her.
  • I agree with this, unfortunately it isn't what you say in post #8.

A pm or two went between myself and Karen in the meantime though and we managed to dig out some info from the tc website . I will see if i can link it for others to read .

Heres the link mentioned in my last post :

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/taxcredits/tell-us-changes.htm See , this link says that you need to report within one month if the child leaves education and starts working over 24 hrs per week .

And then in this link http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/taxcredits/keep-up-to-date/changes-affect/family-change/child-- under the section changes to report within one month it states that if your child begins working for more than 24 hours , you must report this to tco within one month. (no mention of this being dependent on whether or not they remain in education)

So , you see both sections of HMRC's website are giving info which is a little confusing . The first link implies that you only need to report if your child leaves education and starts work and yet the second link implies that even if the child remains in education you must inform tco if they take on work for 24 hours or more.

This is where the confusion arose Oldernotwiser but thanks for pointing it out . I will edit my post number 8.

To the OP , as your child does not regularly work over 24 hours I still say that they will be ok to work the increased amount of hours next week . I took advice from several of the other posters on here when my DD first got her job and they all told me that i did not need to inform tco of DD's job as she was only working between 12/15 hrs per week .

  • Cheers no-oneknows me, I appreciate you highlighting this info, I will not worry about next week, My daughter wants to do it and promises her studies won't suffer,

She doesn't want to create bad feeling with her employer as she may need more hours once she finishes school if she hasn't managed to secure herself another permanent job. I have spoken to her this evening about all this and she knows she is lucky to have this job.

I couldnt agree with you more Karen !

My own DD was so very lucky that She was able to walk straight into her job as soon as she left school . I know that in this day and age that is not an easy thing to do....luck was on her side .

She is studying childcare and has high hopes of working in a nursery when she gains all the relevant qualifications but incase she struggles to ind childcare work im glad she has this part time job to fall back on.
