my_definition wrote: »hi guys,
I had a we search for this so apologises if its been posted before. We have just bought a new laptop and are looking to buy Microsoft word for it preferably 2007. My OH and i are just getting used to 2007 and are both students but when ive looked up prices its atleast £40 just for word and it would only be £50 for the student deal. Is there anywhere we could just buy word on its own for a reasonable price? we are skint and it seems a lot of money to buy the newer version which we dont particularly want.
I didnt put the copy we had on the older laptop onto disk but i still have it on the laptop so i dont know if theres a way i could take it of? we did get 2 licences and its only been used on one so i think that this would be within the rules.
Thanks for any help
I bought Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 for my daughter from here

Well if the old laptop is still working (and you no longer have the license key) you can use To view most licenses on the system and if you still have the Office disc use that to install and the license you got from SIW. Also what version of Office is on the old system (Is it the full version, just word, home and student or business etc etc.)0 -
Google docs or the ms equivalent and i think theres word available as well and both are free0

If you are buying from new most, if not all, will sell Office 2010 and not Office 20070 -

Download size of LO is much bigger than OO because it contains versions for a host of languages which most people will never need. As each develops in its own way the differences will become more significant and one or other will come out the leader. At the moment I would say stick with OpenOffice, but the choice is yours.
It's all to do with Oracle buying Sun Microsystems, Open Office is owned by Oracle now and may be changed to a paid for service so top people at the Open Office HQ started there own Libre Office to KEEP IT FREE and were politely asked to leave Oracle...
Libre Office will remain free whereas Open Office may not... (Watch this space).Debt target: £19,000.00

Office 2010 is to Office 2007 what Windows 7 is to Vista - basically the same thing, but with the bugs ironed out; the package which SHOULD have been released in the first place.
Now, whether we like it or not, the new ribbon interface is here to stay and, even though they can generate compatible formats, OO/LO just don't "feel" the same anymore.
If you're likely to have to use MS Office 2007/10 (say at work) then your effectiveness will only be reduced if you're still using Off2003 or OO/LO routinely at home.
The MS Home User Program is the cheapest way to get legal copies.
I now feel dirty having made my first ever really pro-M$ post anywhere.I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.
