hi guys,
I had a we search for this so apologises if its been posted before. We have just bought a new laptop and are looking to buy Microsoft word for it preferably 2007. My OH and i are just getting used to 2007 and are both students but when ive looked up prices its atleast £40 just for word and it would only be £50 for the student deal. Is there anywhere we could just buy word on its own for a reasonable price? we are skint and it seems a lot of money to buy the newer version which we dont particularly want.
I didnt put the copy we had on the older laptop onto disk but i still have it on the laptop so i dont know if theres a way i could take it of? we did get 2 licences and its only been used on one so i think that this would be within the rules.
Thanks for any help

Before you think of spending your money try this http://www.openoffice.org/
Its free and is compatible with word docs."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -
...or its twin LibreOffice.0

Yes definitely agree - openoffice is the way to go. I've got rid of Microsoft Office applications from my computer now, Open Office will give you everything you want and as Jeff says, is compatible with word as well as all the other MS Office applications (excel etc) We even use it at work now - so many other people use it now.0 -
yup, I'd strngle suggest giving one of the free options at least a try befre spending money, you can happily save as and edit word .doc / .docx files with ether0

another vote for openoffice here. don't use it myself as I got office cheap through work... but I have done in the past and it was good.0

Someone told me Libreoffice had replaced Openoffice but when I googled, Openoffice is still available, so given that I might have got that wrong, what's the difference between the two, and does Openoffice, offer much less than Word as a substitute? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. At the moment Libre Office is identical to OpenOffice with a few cosmetic changes and some additions. But that will clearly change as each develops in their own way. Download size of LO is much bigger than OO because it contains versions for a host of languages which most people will never need. As each develops in its own way the differences will become more significant and one or other will come out the leader. At the moment I would say stick with OpenOffice, but the choice is yours.0

I agree, stick with OO. The new version 3.3 is excellent, the spreadsheet now matches MSOffice. Perhaps a little slower to open the program, but it is free. LibreOffice is not looking too promising, it will not open MSOffice spreadsheets and does not have the capacity of OO.
However, do remember that if you are sending OO documents to someone else, MSOffice will not open them.0 -
Isn't LibreOffice just a fork of version 3.3 of OpenOffice anyway?0

if you work at a biggish company you can get whole office suite for like £10, would be office 2010
