Has anyone any experience of Animals at Home have just contacted them regarding individual cremation of my dog and just wanted to check if anyone had any experience of them.
I'm taking my dog later today and am convinced we will have to put her down, also my 2 sons 16, 15 want to come too I've never had a dog put down before and wondered if this was a good idea to let the boys come.

Hi there so very sorry to hear of your predicament, I had to have my dog put to sleep in November just gone. I'm a 33 year old male and it absolutely broke my heart, I don't have experience of the company you mentioned however when i had my German shepherd cremated individually it cost £140.
As for taking your two boys it all depends on how you think they may handle seeing the dog in her final moments, the vet I'm sure will handle it extremely sensitively and explain exactly what will happen. In our case my dog was given an injection to make him sleep then basically an overdose to stop his heart.
Again very very sorry. All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy...

MillyMolly I totally feel what you are right now, infact Im struggling holding it together at my work desk right now..... I've no doubt that your dog was an integral part of the family just as I used to call my dog , MY BOY!! It is a very hard decision and one that hopefully I never have to do again as I found it way too painful. Only you know your dog and if it is the "right time", when I had to do this many kind people on here told me to google a poem called RAINBOW BRIDGE. Have a look after you have gotten over this awful day, it certainly helped me grieve and I'm sure you too.All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy...

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy...

So sorry to hear about your dog.
Have you asked about having it done in your own home? It's certainly less stressful for your dog and would give the boys a chance to say their goodbyes. It is obviously upsetting, but usually suprisingly peaceful - though I was warned your dog can sometimes struggle at the last minute, it has never happened to me.
I think you can arrange for the vet to take the body and for it to be collected by the pet undertakers later."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -
Sorry to hear your dog is not well and may need to be put down.
I had my cat put to sleep but I have asked the vet to come and do it at home, could not face having to take them to a strange place n his last moments.
Vet came here, we were all with the cat, Tiger was on his favourite couch when vet put him t sleep.
Then the vet took him away in a white body bag, from there he was collected for individual cremation and we got him back in a little cat casket - he is on the shelf in my daughter's room ever since.
Perhaps yo could arrange for the vet to come to your house? I am sure this would be a bit less traumatic for both dog and the kids?
Hugs for you all, really sorry to know a friend may need to be put to sleep0 -

Ask at the vets if they are willing to come to the house, im sure most do offer the sevice if you ask. Lets hope it doesnt come to that. Take care xx0

I was going to say the same as buddys mum. I have always had the vet home for the final goodbye. I couldnt bear mine to leave the world anywhere apart from their own safe home.
Fingers crossed you may find your dog can be helped. xx0 -
