...however, be prepared on most of them to die many times until you find out which keys control your character

lol I remember the 8 bit computers very fondly. My ZX81 used to crash when the 3.5mm power lead moved under keyboard pressure so I had to solder the cable to the power connectors to prevent it from crashing. Those were the days..........
The speccy games were much better and very playable even though the graphics were naff.0 -
I loved those old graphics. Games now are so visually heavy, you need a lot of processing power to play exactly the same things .
There are heaps of educational games for the spectrum (as a lot of schools ran spectrums instead of the BBC micro)which run on emulators, we had a vast collection when the kids used to do homeschool.
The 48k spectrum was the first computer I ever owned and I gave it to my son when he was about 8,it was how he got into programming.0 -
Can someone kindly put simple instructions on how to use these emulators to get the exact same old experience. The games on the sites given above are either somewhat different to the original or not working.
Thanks in advance for any help.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0 -
This great thread reminds me of being up the comp in the early eighties. The talk around christmas time was alaways about which computer you were hopefully receive off santa (yes, I still believe). It was usually a choice between the spectrum 48k or the commodore 64. To get the bbc you had to have wealthy parents.
It also takes me back to copying games using a double tape music centre with an awful racket coming out of it. Happy days!!0 -
Is it possible to get say an Xbox 360 controller to work with a mac and use with the emulator or would I need to buy something specific?0

Speccy games were mostly keyboard affairs. Joystick support came later with the kempston interface plug on pack which I had. I also had an interface 1/microdrive with those silly little tape cartridges

Start the emulator and run the ROM you want. Can someone kindly put simple instructions on how to use these emulators to get the exact same old experience.
Depends on how (or if) the Mac sees the controller and has the necessary drivers for it.Is it possible to get say an Xbox 360 controller to work with a mac and use with the emulator or would I need to buy something specific?Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0
