Dog being sick after wormers.

My dog has been a bit reluctant with his food the past week which is unusual for him.

Last time I wormed him he was sick straight after so obviously the wormer wouldn't have had time to work.

He won't take bread so can't hide a tablet like that, and I'm thinking the appetite loss might indicate that bhe does have worms.

Anyone know of any wormers that would be less likely to cause vomiting and possibly might taste good enough for the dog to condescend to take it?

  • Plerion wormers (Available from Pets @ Home) are formulated to taste like treats.

However, if the not eating has been going on for a while, I'd suggest a trip to the vets to rule out any blockages/ complications.

Hope the poor lad feels better soon!

He is eating. Just that he used to nearly eat the bowl too, and now he sort of looks at it for a bit then reluctantly eats it.

Wormers from the pet shops dont cover all worms - you need to buy from the vet

If your dog has less appitite or less enthusiasm for his food then you really should get him checked over

Oh and wormers hiddin in cheese usually slip down a treat - never had a dog refuse cheese

  • I just wanted to make a comment on this as my puppy was really ill after his wormers so my vet suggested a wormer and flea treatment in one its called advocacy and is just a liquid filled pippette so goes no where near his tummy and no upset tummys!!! I was so relieved with this, I use it all the time now!!

Would just like to add, the vet gave me this treatment to use on my rescue dog. I thought it was just a flea treatment, so imagine my shock when one week after treatment my dog vomited a pile of dead roundworms!

  • My dog is usually pretty off when he's given wormers too (and never actually seen any worms) - some dogs have allergies to some of the ingredients.

You can get "natural" wormers online.

    ROTFLMAO

    Theres always one :D

My lad isnt allowed cheese now so hubby is in charge of getting the wormer into the dog. His way is with a slice of ham or chicken. Wrap the wormer in a piece to cover fully then he tears up the rest and starts treating the dog making him work for them - paw - sit -etc. Once the dog has has a few bits wormer free he gives him a few bits fast and furious and slips in the wormer one - it usually fools him :D
