Vodafone - Botched contract & credit rating issues

I would agree that selling a debt to a debt collector after a couple of months without contacting the customer seems harsh - that is if that is the situation.
I have a spare Orange sim that is on EQ Virgin 50 dating back years and years. It works on a PAYG basis, but paid by DD in arrears as a 2nd sim on my main number. Most months, I don't use it but every now and again I get Orange Wednesday's ticket on this.
Somehow, this occasional number became detached from my main number and I moved house nearly 4 years ago. Orange didn't change my billing address on this number, but did on my main one. Only this month, I decided to check that my Orange a/c was clear and I discovered that I owed £9.00 or so stretching back from late 2006! No more than 30p - £1.00 in any one month, so I didn't notice such a small amount missing from my monthly bill.
Good old Orange had neither cut me off or sold my huge debt to the debt collectors. Paid by Debit card and now got it on my main DD, but thanks Orange for not blacklisting me. :T:T0 -
As a consultant I move almost every 3 months. If you did it, you would understand what a logistical nightmare that is in this country. I insist on online only communication wherever I can, but lots of companies are still stuck in the dark ages.
Checking your statement online may sound easy to you, but when it takes two months and several attempts for a land line supplier to provision a DSL line so that ordinary Joe can just simply 'check his online statement' what options does Joe have? Maybe you think he should check his email over a public wifi system or in an internet cafe? I hardly think so. UK work methodologies are not geared up for modern living, its a simple fact.
I do not dispute that I should pay what I owe, I am a strong believer in paying what I owe. I dispute the outcome. I made a simple mistake (a mistake that was compounded significantly by vodafone). I do not believe I should pay for it by having a default when a simple intelligent conversation would have sufficed.
I dispute the mentality that it is acceptable to impact people's lives in this manner because it is not profitable for a company to extend common decency and respect for its fellow human being.
I dispute the fact that companies find it acceptable to erect a wall of 'computer says no' robots in the hope that this will in some way suffice.
And I dispute the fact that despite the fact that I owe nothing on my credit cards, nothing on HP and have a loan to value of less than 30% on my house I am classed as a 'credit risk' under the new banking system. Please explain the sanity of those underwriting rules to me, for I am all ears. Do you think that this is a fair and acceptable outcome for an £80 debt?
3 years ago it would not have been an issue, the banks would still have thrown money at me, but we all know how that panned out. I'm all for tightening up the rules and encouraging people to live within their means, but credit risk? me? give me a break. Can I have an intelligent conversation with a a qualified underwriter who is prepared to explain the companies policies and to provide a rational defence to the underlining logic? of course not. Do they realistically think people with half a brain haven't worked out why?
Where is this free and fair global democratic society that I keep hearing about? What a big pile of profit building twaddle this country has become. Where has simple honesty and decency gone? Everyone is too busy repaying the magic non existent money that most of them didn't lose in the first place. The trouble with this country is that we have let the corporate bean counters take over
Damn, I'm starting to sound like my dad0 -

Vodafone messed up & marked my credit rating
Plz could you urgently clear my credit rating and advice. The agreed payment has been settled & all resolved 2nd Feb with a bill paid with Danny under ref. 709440. There was a letter from Vodafone confirming the settlement. My account should have been cleared soon after. I have been assured the a/c will put back & state unmarked, cleared in full with within 3 days working. Till today, I still could not find it reflected on credit rating websites. Could you update accordingly asap & confirm it done back to me. Unfortunately, I will need to take a legal action against Vodafone if not resolved within 7 working days from now.

Sirs,
I trust, we have managed to resolve all the issues now. Just to make sure, I had to leave the service unfortunately due to various problems of the network, of which I have been advising you during the period of custom. Nevertheless I have managed to settle and after speaking to Danny at your CUSTOMER SERVICE team, the account has been settled and we resolved our miss-understandings 2nd Feb 2012 under ref: 709440. All outstanding have been cleared. I also have contacted Mark and Lonnie 3rd Feb and they confirmed that indeed. Please could you so advice THE CREDIT REFERENCE COMPANY ACCORDINGLY. Your asap action will be most appreciated, could you also confirm it back to me.0 -
