Avon is owned by Cooper of America, (and made in China now, if I remember a previous posting correctly)
Some production is still in the UK though.

The word budget was in inverted commas, implying that they are VFM  Avon aren't necessarily budget, but well priced and good quality, as you rightly replied JL. Vredestein are an improving brand, but at the moment aren't a well supplied brand like they are in the rest of Europe. They do make good snow tyres too. Nokian are also growing, and worth checking, but have also had very poor experiences with Pirelli P6000's and would never recommend them.

TiTheRev, I was with you until you mentioned the SuperSteels. Maybe it's just me but I've always found their grip to be suspect.

In principle though you are quite right, the mid-range has some very good deals. Toyo T1R, Falken 452, Uniroyal Rainmaster 2, Khumo KH31 are my personal picks, but as you say the Avon, Maxxis and Firestone tyres also offer a lot for little money.

If you are really pushed for cash the Nankang NS2 and Lassa Impetus range are the best of the budget bunch. Admirals can be OK as well (cheap Khumos).

Have a look at Value Tyres and Camskill to get an idea of what you're after and take it from there. I bought Toyo T1Rs for £53 each (205/55/16).

The SS595's are the only ones I've found to be ok, hence the specific recommendation. The other versions are poor.

Camskill are VERY competitive with their prices, but they've yet to have a tyre I need in stock  I can sell stuff I dont have in stock for cheap prices!!

Hankook evo v12 are a very under rated tyre.
I preferred them over Goodyear F1's

I'm in the market for 3 possibly 4 tyres and saw in my local paper that Just Tyres have got Firestones on special. Plus thers an extra fiver off per tyre !

205/55/16/91v is what I'm after - they are quoting £67.25 then off with the fiver ! This can't be bad ....

I cant find a better deal in Camskill ....

Is this a good deal or what ?

Well they are £60.89 delivered at mytyres at present, so if that is a fitted price it looks pretty good.
