Samsung Galaxy S and Network Providers?

Options
Hi,

I'm new to posting on the board, but have been using it for the great advice for quite a while now.

I'm after a bit of advice. I'm looking at getting the Samsung Galazy S phone on contract. I've seen offers on Tesco, Orange and Vodafone that have the kinds of allowances I need.

They are all on the carphone warehouse so when I get chance I'm going to pop into the local shop.

The tariffs(sp) I have seen are;
Vodafone; 300 minutes, unlimited texts and 500mb web browsing for £25 a month
Orange; 300 minutes, unlimited texts and 500mb web browsing for £25(ish) a month
Tesco; 750 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited web browsing for £30 a month.

What I would like to know is (and sorry if they are stupid questions);
1) Does anyone know if sending picture messages is included in the allowance or would I have extra charges on my monthly bill?
2) The phone has wi-fi, if I connect to the internet through that at home (we have sky) will it affect my internet allowance?
3) Is there a preferred network to go with? Has anyone had problems with Vodafone, Orange or Tesco?
4) I'm currently with O2. If I go into a store, do you think they will match one of the above price plans so I can stay with them?
5) Does anyone have the phone, and what do you think of it?

Thank you in advance for any replies.

    1. You'd need to check for the tariff - some include them, some don't. It'll be in the conditions somewhere.
    2. If you use Wi-Fi it will use your home broadband allowance (i.e. however much you get with Sky) rather than the phone's 3G data allowance.
    3. Don't know - might vary depending on where you are. Some networks are better/worse in certain areas than others. For example, I'm with 3, who are great where I live, but awful in some parts of the country. You could try searching for reviews of the networks, but you'll probably find a lot of moaning and dissatisfied customers on all of them to be honest.
    4. You can try, but the stores don't tend to give the best available deals, which are usually found online.
    5. No, but I'm hoping to acquire one in the near future. The reviews are very good for it though, and put it roughly on a par with the highly regarded HTC Desire range. There are some specific pros and cons for each phone, but a lot of it seems to come down to personal preference.

    p.s. I've been considering the Dial a Phone deals for the Samsung Galaxy S, where it's available on Orange (300 mins, unlimited texts, 500MB data) for an effective monthly of £20.22 (after redeeming 5 months free line rental). However, I've never used Dial a Phone or Orange myself, so this isn't a recommendation, just a deal I've seen from my doing own research. If anyone has seen any better deals for the phone I'd be interested to hear them btw.
  • yep own the phone brilliant phone after tweaking and customising it, look online for the best deals, majority of tariffs dont include pciture messging i use whatsapp for that
  • Thank you very much for the replies.

    I'm going to write down the offers online and see what they can offer me in store and then go for the best deal :D

    Good luck :)
  • The reason they do the online offers is because it's cheaper for them and they won't match the offers. If you buy online you get 7 days to test everything out to make sure you are happy. In the shops you don't!
  • see if you want to wait a few days.

    the samsung galaxy s2 http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/38538/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-hands-on has been announced at the barcelona mobile world congress today. so prices for the original will drop now.

    but it may be some time before the new version comes in the uk. see what suits you best.

  • Thank you all :D

    I ended up getting it from 3. They offered me 500 minutes, 5000 texts and 1GB web for £25 a month. It's all I need and plenty more so I'm happy :)

    Thank you for all the help.x
