SAFEST - If you don't have insurance then don't let them drive it! You'll need to get a policy in force for the car or it is highly likely you will be committing an offence.

Still, yes once they sign the V5 / pay the money / you give them a reciept (and keep one - top tip here put the date and time on it and have them sign it in case they go through a speed camera on the way home and try to claim it was still your car at the time) it is their car so they need to have it insured.

Personally, I have always used day insure or had a policy lined up when I have picked up a new vehicle. You have the internet so you could offer computer use (monitored) if needed but I normally make a call and then pay for it if I like the car/bike.

Excellent point which is often overlooked.

Whenever I'm arranging to see a car, the last question I always ask on the phone is ''has the car been used/started today?''. If it's been used, I try to arrange a later time for viewing and ask that it wont be started until I arrive.

Ha I usually forget to make the point before arriving but always feel the bonnet and then engine before starting up. If it's warm I'm very sceptical unless I can hear a really good reason!

I don't let any buyers drive my cars even if they do have insurance. I take them for a drive.
    Like it or lump it.
