I have an epilator which comes with a shaving attachment - it's very easy to use theres no need for shaving gel or anything and you can use it on wet or dry legs. I would recommend one of those - probably safer than normal razors and a lot less fuss.
I have hirsutism so I know how destroying it can be to confidence, it's a shame it's a problem when she's so young, but hopefully the hairs would grow back very slowly.
  • I had really hairy arms and legs from an early age and shaved my legs. I remember the horrible cuts and blood pouring down my legs. In those days immac was the only other choice and it burnt like hell on my skin. I didn't discover waxing until I 20 and was lucky to find a very good beautician who made it as comfortable as possible.

It's a difficult subject, on one hand you don't want to destroy a childs confidence and on the other it's seen as something that only adults do. I know if waxing had been available to me at an early age I would have gone for it. I spent years being embarrassed during sports and it was hell in the summer when everyone was in shorts.

The good thing is that there are waxes available now which are much kinder to the skin. Make sure your beautician uses Berins or Perron Rigot wax as these companies have developed new formulas which heat at lower temperatures.

I would do sugaring rather than waxing as its better for the skin plus my beautician uses it.

Bless her. x I would try and build her confidence and leave it for a few years. If not, try a delipatory cream, I think she is too young for waxing - of any kind.

I noticed Madonna's little girl Lourdes was quite hairy - having very bushy eyebrows and facial hair on her top lip.
It is only in the last year (Lourdes is now 14) that Madonna has let remove the excess hair.

I have been doing everything I can to build her confidence and in most ways is an amazingly confidant child.

    Cream are out, too chemically.

We have had the same issue this year, DD now 9, but we have been using cream to remove the hair on her arms since she was 8. Whilst she has always been hairy (runs in the family) and I knew that it would come up at some point, I was hoping to get her to big school before we did any hair removal. Unfortunately, she was getting picked on a school about it, to the extent that she wouldn't take her jumper off at school (uniform is a short sleeved polo shirt) and refused to wear any short sleeved tops at home. She has been so much happier since the hair removal - I was bothered that she was too young, but it was definately that right decision for her.

I am very hairy, sister is paler skinned and lighter hair so doesn't suffer as mcuh I am olive skinned with black hair and have removed the hair since I was about 10

I would let my DD shave her leg if she is so upset by it, it isn't that much of a big deal really because the longer you leave it the more bothered by it she will be.

I now wax my legs but shaved them for years, yoru daughter probably wont like the stubble you get while waiting to be waxed and with a battery operated shaver she will be at no risk of cutting herself
  • My girls are mixed race and have been shaving their legs for years, DD1 plucks her eyebrows and lip but DD2 has me wax these as she is more comfortable with this. I will support what they want to do whether it be waxing, sugaring, shaving or threading but we always have a good talk about it.
Sadly, you don't have any badges yet but keep trying! See what you could get........... oh boo hoo I am crying into my wine. :D
