children's hair removal?

The summer is coming up and I always found that my leg and arm hair would go blonde in the summer leaving it a lot less noticable. I would be hesitant for her to start removing hair as once she starts she will always have to do it but obviously you know your daughter and the effect it's having on her better than anyone here.:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0

have you thought about hair removal pads like something these
http://www.amazon.co.uk/JML-Satin-Pure-Exfoliating-Removal/dp/B002T54OSI0 -
Oh I've used those pads before and they are really good and I have really thick black leg hair so can understand how bad it can be. I find it grows back really fast though, quicker than shaving but on a young child hopefully it would be slower. Everyone is different and not everyone is lucky enough to have hair that goes blond in the summer or isn't really noticeable. My son is 5 years old and has an awful hairy back and its not downy hair its black hair all over which I assume will only get thicker as he gets older, obviously nothing needs doing about it right now but if he was asking and if the other kids at school were mentioning it from changing for pe then I'd be looking at what I could do for him too.0

I have used the pads and found them useless.
Though her dad is now saying she isnt to use anything for a good few years.Shut up woman get on my horse!!!0 -
My DD has noticeable dark hair which doesn't go lighter on her legs in summer. She has a lot of dark hair on her forearms too, but I guess because she's always in short sleeves in summer those hairs do go lighter and become less noticeable.
Since she was 8 I have shaved her legs (just the bits below the knee) for her when she has asked me too, she doesn't want to do it herself yet (she's nearly 10) and in winter she doesn't ask that often. But as she dances every weekend, she is aware of when she feels conspicuous (sp) about it. In the last 6 months or so she has started to sprout very dark hair in her armpits too, so when she asks, I shave her there (again, as she dances in sleeveless leotards she feels this would be very noticeable).
We have had the discussions about everyone being different and we all have a feature or 2 we don't particularly like about ourselves, but it doesn't make us bad or strange. I did put off the starting shaving when my DD first started talking about it, in the hope that it would be a passing thing for her.
We have also experimented with hair lightening cream/hair removal cream, but she doesn't like the cold cream/gel or the sensation on her skin as the cream is starting to work.0 -
I had noticeable hair on my legs and underarms around that a (maybe aged about 9 actually) was very self concious of it
, so i immac-ed (called veet now), a better alternative to waxing or shaving. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I dont think she could use it, she has sensitive skin like me and I react to itShut up woman get on my horse!!!0 -
My DD2 is blonde and has fine hair, but felt very self conscious about hairy legs when she was about 8. Although it's fine it grows wierdly - it grows out rather than down so it looks noticeable. I fobbed her off to begin with by saying you couldn't really notice it, but it was obvious it was bothering her. She wouldn't wear ankle socks to school with a dress or skirt in the summer or shorts on holiday.
She has always had quite sensitive skin so I didn't like the idea or hair removal cream or epiladies or waxing, so I shaved her legs below the knee for her using an older razor so not as sharp and lots of (DH'S) shaving cream, and then rubbed in lots of unscented body lotion. She was really happy, her legs felt and looked smooth, and she was happy to wear ankle socks etc as before. I only do it when she asks me too, so it's only in the summer. (she is 12 now)
In most things I am quite traditional, I don't like them growing up too soon or wearing make up and nail varnish etc, but this seemed a fairly simple thing to do for something that was making her miserable. To be honest I dont think most people notice if her legs are hairy or not!
DD1's legs are quite hairy but she has never considered hair removal on them and she's nearly 16.0 -
I just do not like the idea of a young child of this age removing hair at all. It just seems wrong to me.0

the ones that have used the razor.. do you notice the hair thicker and growing too quickly ? my dd is too young yet but she is dark and i can see she will have the same problem i had when i was a child... i had hairy legs and my mum did nothing about it, i used to take my dad;s razor and do it myself, cutting myself in the process....0
