help with phone abroad

sorry to ask whats probably there some were,,, but iv read the sticky and thay don't make much sense to me,, so ill have to ask ,, last year i visited egypt and took a tesco payg phone and sim i made two calls home about 3 mins max and it cost 10 pound ,, i don't know if that was my fault or the phone but it was a bit expensive ,, next week im going to the Caribbean on a cruse,, places will be Cuba Aruba etc,, i know it costs more but i know 10pound for 3 mins is not good ,, so i have a vodafone sim and a orange sim plus tesco what sim would you take im only keeping in touch with my son at home on the odd day so im not bothered about it dirt cheep but reasonable would be good,,or should i get another sim?? thanks Carl
