£7.58 paypal debt collection

I sold a jumper on ebay 4 months ago for £30 (it was a vintage topshop one) and sent it first class recorded. It was signed for 2 days after i posted it. 3 weeks later, i got an email saying the payment had bein reversed. Obviosly i'd spent some of the money as i thought that all was ok and so my balance is (and has bein for a while) below zero, -£7.58. They have bein trying to contact me on the mobile number i provided, which is an old phone i no longer have and i haven't realy made much effort to contact them as it's such a small sum (immature i know, i wish i had) anyway, today they said they "may" refer me to a debt collection agency. My questions:
1. how likely is it that a debt collection agenct will chase £7.58 debt?
2. will intrest be added to that debt, if so how much?
They have said i have 3 days to pay but i don't get paid for another 6 days.
I'm 18 and a single mum to a toddler and baby, i work 9 hours a day and struggle to get by. I'm on the verge of losing my flat and although £7.58 is a relatively small sum i'm scared to death that it could grow to hundreds of pounds if sold to a collection agency. Has anyone had similar experiences? What happened?
Thankyou.

I can't help with all of the questions above but my suggestion is to go straight to your bank and ask for an overdraft of £8 for 6 days. Because it is such a small amount, the overdraft will probably be free. Pay your Paypal debt immediately. Then the problem will be solved.

I don't know who you bank with but here is the overdraft information for HSBC:

Seriously, less than £8 is not worth this sort of stress. Pay it and move on.

Alternatively, if you tell them when your payday is, and that you intend to pay, I can't see how it would be cost effective for them to do anything about until that date had passed.
I'm not bad at golf, I just get better value for money when I take more shots!

Huh ? Why are you even considering paying them ? If anything, you should be taking legal action against paypal for your £30.

You have proof of delivery, you've fulfilled your side of the deal. Take paypal to the small claims for your £30 .

It could possibly have been sorted if you'd replied when you knew about it happening 3 weeks after the sale. But 4 months down the line, Paypal will be getting less patient with you. If there is any way to pay them just the £7.58. Do you have a friend with a Paypal account? They could send the money to you as a gift so no charges are incurred, and that would just put your balance back to zero.
  • Troll?

Paypal contacting you on a mobile you no longer have? So how do you know they have been trying?

Giving you 3 days to pay?

I'm sorry but you don't add up.

You have 6 years to claim the money back from paypal. No way I would stand for paypal stealing my money!

no i'm not a troll. like i said i signed up to paypal over 4 months ago, i was using a cheapo tesco phone at the time and put that number in. it's broken and i've since got a new phone and the old one was given as a toy to my toddler as he likes to pretend to ring/talk to people. They have bein emailing me and telling me that they have tried contacting me. Sorry but you're very odd to think anyone would be joking about something like this? Oh and it was 30 days to pay but i didn't read my emails for a while and the date works out that by now i have 3 days left.
  • & i can't change my phone number as my account is limited..

So as I said, things don't add up.

Unless you give all the info, people cannot help fully.

You don't know if I am odd or not, nor I you.
