Low Energy Light Bulbs

I have finally given in and plan to replace all my filament bulbs with low power equivalents. I have about half the house done at the moment and have managed to pick up a few good bargains in the past.
Does anyone know of any shops that have offers on them at the moment? In particular I am looking for 5W E14 SES candle bulbs but others too.
Any help will be appreciated.

Morrisons sell them just under £3 each I think0

Wickes are doing 3 for 99p on the range of Philips Tornado bulbs, which includes an SES bulb. I've found these to be fantastic as their spiral shape means they fit better in the place of traditional bulbs. The 20W (115W equivalent) is the best bulb I've found yet as primary main lighting for a room. Be warned - the 20W doesn't scan up as part of the offer at the till - just point it out to the staff and they should discount back down.0

With apologies to the OP, a question on a slight tangent... We have two uplighter shades in our lounge and recently the bulbs needed replacing. I tried energy savings bulbs and just hated them - ended up going to several shops until I found good old 60W pearl bulbs.
The thing I hated about the energy saving bulbs was the colour of the light. It was whiter than the light from old-style bulbs. It made the room feel much colder (old bulbs give a warm yellowy glow). They felt too much like flourescent lighting.
We bought the energy saving ones from Asda but they were branded (I don't recall which brand). Does anyone else find this with energy saving bulbs and are there any makes that give off light the same colour as filament bulbs?0 -

No. We have them throughout the house and I find them excellent.0 -
Tesco are selling the spiral ones for 20p or 30p the older ones are 10p I dont think they are as good as the old originals the light is not nearly as good
I tried them in my 4way fitting in my kitchen and they were dreadful went back to using the R50 £3 for 4 I've got one in my outside light at my front door and its perfect. I have it on all the time when its dark and I know it hardly costs anything at all0 -

You need to buy light bulbs described as WARM WHITE, rather than COOL WHITE."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
Does anyone know when the going rate for the low energy bulbs is going up?
Obviously there is some sort of a subsidy going on and the party must finish one day. I would like to know at which point I should run and start hoarding
Five exclamation marks the sure sign of an insane mind!!!!!

I'd say there is no point hoarding - I've bulbs that are still going strong after five years of use. In another five years the quality will hopefully have improved and the fittings will be smaller. You'll be hoarding old rubbish by the time you need it.0

I wouldn't hoard CFL bulbs as I suspect the future is in something better - LED has potential but needs to get a bit brighter and cheaper to go mainstream - if LED bulbs get over those two issues they will probably kill off CFL bulbs, as you'd get instant light at even lower energy. At the moment you have to be very careful as most of the highstreet LED bulbs aren't worth buying. Wilkinsons are selling 1W GE branded spotlight replacements for £5 each but they are pretty dim (work for us in one particular use but I would say they are 20W equivalent tops - nowhere near as bright as the normal 50W ones) - they have a more powerful one for £15 but I've not personally tried that style. There are better ones available - the green forum on here has some good threads on LED bulbs with suggestions of worthwhile bulbs to try.
The other option is some settings is to go halogen - not as energy saving as CFL but instant light at a decent colour. We've got candle bulbs in our dining room which are G9 halogen capsules mounted in a candle SES bulb - I think we are running on 28W as 40W equivalents. Yes I could probably get down to 5W with CFL ones but they'd look really oversized and naff in a candelabra style light fitting.Adventure before Dementia!0
