Orange UMA service being blocked.
I bought a Blackberry on orange in August last year and it has UMA , which is the only way i can get service on Orange. I has worked fine until the end of January 2011 and suddenly it completely stopped working.
Obviously I have been on the phone to tech support, who were as useful as a chocolate fireguard.
I have received a new Blackberry from them and its still not working.
I have ruled out a problem with my internet service provider. I have an old Nokia 6301 unique phone, and it works fine.
When i run the diagnostic on the blackberry it says Unable to connect, Location not allowed.
I know they are blocked abroad for usage, but that doesn't explain why it has worked for 6 months now suddenly nothing. Plus the last time i checked Northern Ireland wasn't abroad.
If they can't fix this issue i will have another 18months of a contract with absolutely no service what so ever on the Blackberry.
Anyone know what is the best course of action. ?

My wife had an HTC UMA-compatible phone and we had nothing but problems with UMA, so we sent it back to Orange. Several people at Orange told me that Orange's UMA service is extremely unreliable and suffers frequent outages.
My guess is that Orange see your phone as coming from an IP address outside the UK. You say it works with a Nokia but not with the Blackberry any more. Could it be that your Blackberry has started channelling all data traffic (including UMA) via Blackberry's servers in the US? I know this is done for e-mail and web browsing, so perhaps UMA has somehow started doing this too.0 -
I know that Orange have frequent outages with the UMA service however my BB is currently attached at the moment. BB have nothing to do with the UMA service offered by Orange.0

I bought a BB on Orange last year and the signal when at home was very poor. Tried UMA but not much improvement. Have put phone on manual network, locking it to Tmobile and big improvement even though only 2g. Needed to register with Orange first.0

UPDATE: I sent Orange an email on Tuesday 15th Feb, to say that the signal was not working and I wanted my contract terminated. They called me today to say they would terminate the contract upon receiving my handset back and sent me out a freepost bag. Just waiting on my PAC code now so hopefully in a few weeks i'll be rid of them, if they don't manage to mess this up aswell.0
