*sorry, I initially placed this in the wrong section*

My fund is only £1000 but I want one with the cheapest insurance :)

I originally wanted a Citroen C1 which I could get for around £3k and then insurance on it is only £500 woo!! lol

But now I'm not sure I can save that money up. I mean I will try but I would like a car for maybe 6mths initially and during that time I can save enough for my Citroen (and maybe trade in?? not sure)

I've looked at clios but are there any others I should look at?

  • Hi Kat
I’m looking for a small car for my DD. A Ka, fiesta, Clio, 206, corsa, cityrover, polo are all on my list. They might interest you too!

Whoa, I know it is cheap but it really wasn't very good. Fiat Panda was far better than it ever was as James May pointed out in his test drive as Rover wouldn't let them near one for that reason!

Thanks for that. Any pointers for a 1st car? I am a novice here and certainly was tempted by the cityrover - it seemed you got a lot for the money. A garage told me that spares were plentiful even though Rover made 4 people very rich. (!)

If its your first car, might be worth staying away from Fiestas, Clios, 206's and Corsa's, have a boy racer image and as such insurance will be high!

Fiat Pandas are cheap on insurance, and I believe Ford KAs are.

Remember to add yourself as a named driver, might save a little bit extra!
What is pi? Where did it come from?

Shame both parents have speeding on our licences - either of us as named drivers puts UP the insurance.
Did not know about boy racer image though. Kas seem to be expensive to buy relative to fiestas. I thought Clios would be girly if I remember the papa ads of old.

I just want to buy off someone like me! ....Looked after the car, can show you receipts and MOT certs. And would never sell something that might kill you.

I wouldn't turn away the cityrover so quickly. I know they're rubbish to drive but they're can't be unreliable. Every other taxi in India is one, because its actually a Tata Indicar (well the cab version's an indicab) with a rover badge on.

So what is so good about them to counter that drive so you would not turn them away? Must be v good!

They're very cheap and mechanically sound. For a first car on a tight budget you're looking for a set of wheels to get you around, not a BMW.

But it isn't, far from it, they were only pennies when they were new.

    Stick with something better made.
