laptop slow booting up

Hi, hope someone can help......
I bought a nice Samsung Q35 laptop a few months ago and there's a small thing that niggles me everytime I boot up.
After Windows XP loads I can't do anything UNTIL the last 2 icons show up in the system tray (bottom right) and those last 2 icons are the 'wireless network' & 'Local Area Connection'
Sometimes they don't show up for 3 mins and sometimes not at all and the laptop has to be re-booted - it's like there's a conflict somewhere.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated
Chris

are you using a [wireless] router.
Sometimes windows will delay if it can't find a dhcp server, to allocate an ip address.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

I hope I did this right - I went to 'run' in start menu then typed 'msconfig' then under the 'startup' tab, I disabled the items you suggested except the first one which I bizzarely couldn't see !!
I don't think I use MSN anyway - is that messenger ?
Anyway I just restarted and it did seem quicker - I'm gonna tray again in a couple of minsyou know when you're getting older - the wife says, "let's go upstairs and make love" and you reply, "I can't do both" !!0 -

Thanks albertross - nope don't believe I am, just a wireless card built into the laptop which picks up the signal from the Buffalo air station transmitter from the desktop PCyou know when you're getting older - the wife says, "let's go upstairs and make love" and you reply, "I can't do both" !!0 -
Just tried starting up again and it was still about 1 min later than all the other icons in the system tray - seems a tad quicker than beofre now.
Interestingly the Zone Alarm always starts up late too - I forgot to mention that before - when Zone Alarm comes up then I know the other two icons will immediately follow, wonder if that's a clue ?
Any thought guys pls ?you know when you're getting older - the wife says, "let's go upstairs and make love" and you reply, "I can't do both" !!0 -
So do you have a peer to peer wireless internet access, or a bufallo wireless router.
The DHCP timeout is usually a minute, but this could be a red herring.
have a look in start, run, eventvwr for cluesEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

Albertross, I don't even know what "peer to peer" is - I have broadband from Telewest to the desktop then a Buffalo Wireless 'Air Station' which send the signal to my laptop and the laptop has a built in wireless receiver.
What's "DHCP" pls ?
I've never looked in the eventvwr before so I'm not sure what clues to look for.
By the way - do you know if it's possible to run an external TFT monitor when I'm using the laptop at home cause the laptop screen in really small and hard to see (but great for travelling) ?
EDIT: just sorted the external TFT monitor ;-)you know when you're getting older - the wife says, "let's go upstairs and make love" and you reply, "I can't do both" !!0 -
I wonder if Zonealarm is pst of the problem ??
try turning on the windows built in firewall, uninstalling zonealarm and rebooting
if thats the problem then install KerioEx forum ambassador
