Car hire rip off

Am I the only person completely fed up with car hire companies in Europe who are ripping off clients with hidden costs which only become apparent when you arrive at your destination.
For example, I recently booked a 4 day rental from Turin airport at the Avis website for around £72 - quite a good deal. I get to the airport and they tell me that the insurance coverage I have comes with an excess of Euros 2500 if anything goes wrong!!!!!!! And to have full coverage I have to pay an extra Euros 26 per day. So I end up paying an extra Euros 104 for peace of mind - more than double what I originally paid. What's more, if anything did happen to the car, I would still have to pay an admin fee of Euros 50.
Just as the airline industry has been pushed into more transparent prices, surely we need a similar law to bring the European car hire industry into line?

I've rented cars for use in Rhodes & Cyprus (3 times) and have never paid extra..... but then I do research carefully before booking. Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!

Before you travel you can buy excess insurance for around £1.99 per day. See the car hire page on this website for details.0
